When i update the events calender to 4.2.1. the whole site returns an 500 error. I switched back to 4.1.4. and everthing is fine. I checked for a .htaccess error and for memory limit but it looks all fine. I do not have a clue where to look further. A little help would be very appreciated.

    Hey Thomas,

    Thanks for reaching out 🙂

I see you’re a customer of a few months but a first time poster, so welcome to the forums! Does the issue still occur while updating the plugin manually? Instructions on how to do so can be found here. Let me know how it goes and we’ll take it from there.

Again, welcome and have a great rest of your day.
    Cheers!

    Hello Hunter,
many thanks for your reply. The problem occur by updating manually or via the dashboard. When I activate the 4.2.1. plugin the error 500 appears. I really want to use the pro version, but therefor I have to update the basic one. Do you have an other hint?
    Many thanks for now!

    Hi Thomas,

The error you’re describing could be caused by the incompatibility between the two versions. Are you able to update to the latest version of TEC first, then try upgrading to the latest version of PRO?

It is highly recommended you keep your plugins updated to the latest versions for these types of possible conflicts. Keep me informed and enjoy the remainder of your day 🙂

    Hello Hunter,
many thanks for the helpful tips. There might be a difference between he 4.1.4 and the 4.2. version, that my server doesn´t like. There is only the TEC 4.1.4 plugin installed and everthing is fine. I update to 4.2. and when I activate the plugin the error 500 ocur. I still need some advice. Many thanks for your assistance.

    Hey Thomas,

    I’m definitely a little stumped here :-/

I’m not seeing any other users reporting similar issues and I was able to update without seeing any 500 errors. Can you revert to the Twenty Sixteen theme, deactivate all other plugins, then try updating and see if it work properly? If that doesn’t work, are you able to set up a test environment on a subdomain/staging environment to see if the issue still occurs?

Let me know what you’re able to do and the results of those actions and I’ll do my best to advise on a solution. Thanks for keeping me updated and have a good rest of your weekend!

    Hello Hunter,

I made all steps you advised me. I also set up an empty new domain on my server and installed a new blank 4.5.3 wordpress and tec 4.2. with the dashboard or with a .zip via ftp. The same result. Installing Tec 4.1.4 is doing fine. Update to 4.2, the same error occur. I am so sorry for the inconvenience, but I like your plugin, so I switched to the pro version. If we do not get it up, I have to get it down and a new bad experience of throwing money out of the window.
I hope you have a great week!

    Hey Thomas,

Really sorry for the trouble here!

This is an odd issue that we don’t have other reports of at this time, so I am wondering if you find any success by doing the EXACT following steps. If these steps still produce errors, then we can definitely refund your order (and if you want a refund anyways, at any time, please follow the steps on this page any time! → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/refund-policy/).

Now, here are the exact steps I recommend:

    • Activate a default theme like Twenty Sixteen, or Twenty Twelve, etc.
    • Deactivate ALL plugins.
    • DELETE The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro.
    • Download a fresh copy of The Events Calendar 4.2.2 from here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar
    • Download a fresh copy Events Calendar Pro 4.2.2.1 from here: http://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads

    • Install and activate The Events Calendar 4.2.2
    • Install and activate Events Calendar Pro 4.2.2.1

☝️ See how things behave when you perform these steps. Be sure to use the correct, most-recent version numbers for both plugins, which are as follows:
    The Events Calendar: 4.2.2
    Events Calendar Pro: 4.2.2.1

Do not use any other versions of either plugin, like 4.1.2, or 4.2.0, etc.

If an error is still produced after those steps, can you share a screenshot of the exact error coming up on your site? Can you share screenshots of the issue? You can do so by uploading the screenshots to this thread. If you have issues with that, you can upload to Imgur.com, Flickr.com, CloudUp.com, or any similar image-hosting site; then just share the links to those images here and I’ll take a look.

Thank you for your patience and persistence here! Sorry for all of the trouble!

    Hello George,
many thanks for your reply and the offer for a refund. As I mentioned before, I really like the plugin and your products, so I was not so happy, to take the “easy way”.
I spent a night with “Ant Google” and we found out that the reason of my problems is definitely a problem of my server configuration. I updated all server components right to the actual versions and activated the PHP 5.5 scripting. After the reboot, I deactivated all plugins and switched to the standard theme 20 16. I installed the actual TEC basic version and what a surprise, it got activated and no 500 error occur. But I got a new error, saying “PHP Warning: is_readable()”! But with “Ant Google´s” help, I figuered out to change my PHP settings to “Open_BaseDir() -> None”. And after that, the pluging was runing fine on my website. The installation of TEC Pro 4.2.2.1 went out without no problems and now I am a happy MT customer! Many thanks for now and enjoy your day!
