Hi Brian
Okay, I got the site back up thanks to the help of my hosting company. I’ve successfully updated PRO and Facebook. Just so I don’t cause any more issues:
The hosting company renamed the Community Events folder to get me back. It still shows in the WP backend (not activated).
Do I delete this plugin? Options are “Activate | Edit | Delete” and then upload it again as per your earlier instructions?
Thanks.
yvrmarkParticipantHi, also will there be any issues updating the other plugins? Pro & Facebook add-ons? I want to ensure I don’t get into this problem again.
yvrmarkParticipantHi Brian,
Well that is frustrating.
To be clear – do I delete the entire folder and its contents at wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-community-events/?
Makr
yvrmarkParticipantOkay, you can disregard. I updated manually. Sorry about that.
yvrmarkParticipantThanks Barry! The screen options helped and it is resolved.
yvrmarkParticipantI’d still like an answer to my query though as I am having problems with the captcha being cached 🙂 Here is my question:
Hi Josh
I see that W3 Total Cache uses the “Rejected files” for Contact Form 7 to ensure it doesn’t cache the captacha image:
{uploads_dir}/wpcf7_captcha/*
Should the same not be used for captcha image on the add event page rather than not caching the page itself?yvrmarkParticipantHi Josh

yvrmarkParticipantBTW, this spam is getting VERY VERY annoying. Dozens a day that I have to go in and delete. I can’t be the only one (obviously). A permanent working solution cannot come soon enough.
yvrmarkParticipantAdam, I had the same problem but found these really helpful instructions. I tried it this morning and it worked, but only once. The CAPTHA image refuses to display when you try to load it a second time. I tried multiple browsers in case it was a cache issue but it wouldn’t show the CAPTCHA image. I think it might have something to do with using W3 Total Cache but I have successfully used Really Simple Captcha with Contact Form 7 so I’m at a loss.
Here’s the process I used (we already had Really Simple Captcha installed in tandem with Contact Form 7):
1. Backed the site up.
2. Using cPanel (or FTP) Created a new folder in the /wp-contents/plugins folder and named it patched-up-community-events-captcha
3. copied the code Casey provided and pasted into Notepad and saved file as patched-up-community-events-captcha.php
4. uploaded the patched-up-community-events-captcha.php file into the newly created patched-up-community-events-captcha folder
5. Activated plugin from the wp-admin control panel>> installed plugins
6. testedyvrmarkParticipantHi, sorry for being a little dense but… I already have Really Simple Captcha installed but I have no idea where to actually find and install the second plugin that you refer to. When I click the github link it takes me to a .php file. Where is the actual “plug-in”? I’m obviously missing something.
yvrmarkParticipantWe are experiencing exactly the same thing. Having used Community Events for months we are seeing a flood of spam submissions. A solution cannot come soon enough.
yvrmarkParticipantHad to force “check again” in the dashboard.
yvrmarkParticipantIt is very odd. When I first visit the events list view in Firefox when I try to select one of the other views it does not work. But when I reload the page it works. Same with the month view dialogue boxes. I’ll check on another computer using Firefox and see if I get the same issue. For now I’ll say this is sort of resolved 🙂
yvrmarkParticipantAlso, hovering over the event in month view in Firefox does not give the dialogue box with the brief description. IE seems to work there as well. I suspect there is something about Firefox… 🙂
yvrmarkParticipantD’oh! Thanks Barry!
