Well, after a bunch of testing I’m pretty sure I have a handle on the problem. Seems our older version of wordpress (3.1.4) doesn’t want to sort the events correctly. I did a fresh install on a test server of just 3.1.4 and the newest copies of event calendar pro and replicated the problem. Upgraded wordpress to the latest and the events fell into line…

My problem now though is my web host is still running MySQL 4.2 which prevents me from upgrading wordpress on the production server… I appreciate all the help in this though, feel free to mark this case solved/closed.

Thanks for keeping up with it. My client is a lot less stressed now that it’s off the front page and happier to know you’re all on the case. Thanks for all the work so far. 🙂

Probably 1.6.5 … I’m pretty sure we were up to date before the big switch. It seems the list is staying ordered as the events were entered. The first events entered being the top of the list, so I haven’t seen any newly entered events appear on the widget regardless of their start date.

Yup – tested without other plugins…

I didn’t do the initial creating, but from what I understand: the events were created including duplicates on different dates to simulate recurrance.

Then the plugin was upgraded (1.6 -> 2) and some events were changed to be recurring… giving it a look now, I think I see what you mean… There should only be one ‘concert in the park’ event, but it should be marked as recurring and have it date range and such set… right?

I’m using a plugin to display the widget using a shortcode, but the widget displays the same behavior when shown normally on a sidebar or other widget area.

Feel free to put the widget in a sidebar temporarily if you need for testing, but please remove it afterwards.

I removed the widget from the front page, since the client didn’t want the mis-ordered list shown… I added a test page and provided the link in the email: http://cityofwaterford.org/test/

The page is marked as private so you’ll need to be logged in to see it.

Looks like we’re running PHP 5.2.17 which should be good…

No luck, I disabled all my other plugins and even switched themes, but the events still came up out of order. Is it possible it’s the version of php running on the server?

Nope shouldn’t be, the site is live and public. Though the AT&T server the site sits on often has slowness issues that prevent the site from coming up. It might come up if you give give it a minute and a refresh.

Sure! It’s at http://cityofwaterford.org … near the bottom of the page there’s a tab for upcoming events. I’ve also tried placing the widget in other areas with no luck.
