Scott
MemberI want to use the Events List widget to list the next upcoming events on my homepage, but they are currently sorted by when the were entered. I’d like them to be sorted by Start Date/Time. What am I missing to accomplish this?

MemberHey Scott. Assuming you’re using the Events List Advanced Widget, it should be ordering them by start date/time as a default. Are you running 2.0.2 of both releases? If so, can you show me your site so we can take a look? Sounds like you’re experiencing a weird one-off issue of some kind.

MemberSure! It’s at http://cityofwaterford.org … near the bottom of the page there’s a tab for upcoming events. I’ve also tried placing the widget in other areas with no luck.

MemberThanks Scott. That page doesn’t actually load for me; is it restricted by IP address or something similar?

MemberNope shouldn’t be, the site is live and public. Though the AT&T server the site sits on often has slowness issues that prevent the site from coming up. It might come up if you give give it a minute and a refresh.

MemberThere we go – works now. Must have been a momentary hiccup. Thanks; I am seeing the issue now. I have no idea what would be causing this except a conflict with your theme or another plugin. Any chance you’ve got a testing environment in which you can try deactivating other plugins and reverting to the 2011 theme as needed, to identify whether this is a conflict?

MemberNo luck, I disabled all my other plugins and even switched themes, but the events still came up out of order. Is it possible it’s the version of php running on the server?

MemberIt could be, but so long as you’re meeting the minimum PHP criteria in the readme.txt file, you should be fine. Can you check that you’re on track? I’ll get a dev to chime in here if that isn’t the cause…

MemberLooks like we’re running PHP 5.2.17 which should be good…

MemberAlright, thanks for confirming. I’ll get our dev Jonah to take a look next week. Just a heads up that since we’re winding down the holidays, support will be a bit more limited than usual…but we’ll get you a response sometime early in the week.

ParticipantHi Scott,
I’ll need to take a look at your setup. Can you please provide me WP admin access? Please email to jonahcoyote [at] gmail [dot] com
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Scott,
Received access – thanks. Logged in and checked things out and I’m confused how you have this setup. You’re asking about this list of events correct: http://cl.ly/3J3A0S123W3e1e0U0u2Z ?
That list appears to be populated by the category lists widget which is not related to the Events Calendar. I opened up the Welcome page and found this shortcode that appears to be loading that widget content: [do_widget id=”categoryposts-4″ title=false]
Am I missing something? Can you please provide a little more info.
Thanks,

MemberI removed the widget from the front page, since the client didn’t want the mis-ordered list shown… I added a test page and provided the link in the email: http://cityofwaterford.org/test/
The page is marked as private so you’ll need to be logged in to see it.

MemberI’m using a plugin to display the widget using a shortcode, but the widget displays the same behavior when shown normally on a sidebar or other widget area.
Feel free to put the widget in a sidebar temporarily if you need for testing, but please remove it afterwards.

ParticipantHi Scott,
I see the test page now and the issue. Were any of these events created first as recurring events? It looks like they are repeating a bunch and I’m wondering if this has something to do with the issue. I tried to recreate the same thing locally without recurring events and it doesn’t seem to be a problem on my end…
Have you tried turning off other plugins to see if there is a conflict with another plugin?
