ParticipantGeoff, I’m surprised this is not a feature. Below is an example of why it should be a feature.
A visitor to my site has heard about an event. He wants to learn more about it but does not know the date of the event. He navigates to my calendar and keys in a search term. The default view is monthly. Because the event he’s looking for occurs later in the year, search results don’t turn up the event he’s looking for. He thinks I’ve posted nothing on the calendar and abandons the site (diminishing my site’s stickiness). If he doesn’t immediately abandon his search, he might spend a few minutes of trial and error and eventually discover that he can switch to list view and find the event in search results–a scenario that seems unlikely.
Is it possible to include this feature in an upcoming update? Two possible ways I can think of doing this: (1) let the visitor select the search range; or, if this is too complicated, (2) let the admin select a default search range in the settings.

ParticipantBrian, I would appreciate this as an added feature in the future.
I would like to be able to enter an item such as Christmas Day as a holiday event category. This would populate on Dec. 25th as a label in the calendar view. This way, when someone views the calendar, they are aware that the events I have scheduled on that day fall on a holiday.
I know I can currently enter any holiday as an event (which is what I currently do), but I don’t want to actually create an event, just a label that shows on the calendar.
Thanks for considering it!

ParticipantSame here. I am using WP 4.4 but was experiencing this problem before the upgrade and am still having the problem.
