That’s where I’m stuck, I guess… when I’ve tried to do that, I end up bouncing to cvlt.org/events/cvlt.org which is an invalid address. Any guesses about how I can redirect that without getting into a loop?

I might be poorly explaining my question. The article there says “There are three main methods for making the calendar your site’s homepage.” I’m not looking to make the calendar my site’s homepage. I have used the shortcode to put the calendar into my homepage, and I want to redirect the default calendar TO the homepage.

Right now I have the Settings > Reading configured with “Homepage displays: Static Page” and that is set to my homepage, which has [tribe_events view=”photo” tribe-bar=”false”] in the content section. The “Posts page:” is left un-set.

When someone goes to the homepage, they see just want I want them to see. When they go to /events they see the built-in calendar layout, which I don’t want them to see. I want to redirect the default /events to the homepage, not the other way around. 🙂

    Hi Brendan,

If I’m using the shortcode method is there a way to redirect the default
/events url to the homepage? I haven’t been able to figure out how.

    Gotcha.

Secondary, related question. Can I redirect the root of the events page to the homepage with a 301? I don’t really want anyone to land on http://cvlt.org/events because I’m using the shortcode to embed the events in the homepage. I don’t have any nav pointed to the /events/ page, but I don’t want anyone (including search engines) stumbling in there since it’s duplicate content and not necessary. I attempted to do it with a 301 redirection plugin, but I kept ending up with a bad link.

    Happy New Year, BTW. 😉

BAM. Yes, that should get me where I’m going. So, for now I guess I’ll just enter my recurring events as single events with a custom field and figure out some other way to present a calendar listing if I need to.

Hmmm… is there a way for me to return the value of Additional Fields in the ‘single-event.php’ template? I want to remove the tribe_events_event_schedule_details(); and put in the value of my custom Performance Dates field instead.

It’s an interesting workaround, but the content of the tooltip doesn’t really help me. Our shows are generally “every Friday and Saturday at 8 between date X and date X” so I don’t really need anything other than the first and last date. I will add a custom field for the ‘viewer friendly’ dates and see what I can do with it.

I’m wondering if I should maybe not use the recurring events at all. Since I’m not using the calendar layout, having every single performance at a unique URL doesn’t really help me anyway…

Sure thing. Here’s a shot of the event entry screen and a shot of the site’s homepage, which uses the [tribe_events view=”photo” tribe-bar=”false”] shortcode.

Scratch that – I think I figured out my mistake. That function should get me where I need to go, thanks!

Hey there! Thanks for the quick reply during the holiday week. 😉

I’ve added that new function to my functions.php, but that doesn’t seem to be doing the job. I’ve attached a couple of screenshots. Basically I am trying to get rid of that blue background and white text so that the event looks like any other event. I’m using the Photo view on the homepage and the ‘Events List’ widget in the sidebar.
