Thanks for the complete explanation George. I accept your explanation and I do get it. I’ve spent many years around software developers. However, I would still argue that either by design or by fault – the functionality does not work as presented. My users are presented with a cost field – they fill it in. And when they can’t see it I have to tell them, “Oh yeah you don’t get to see it because I have a switch in my admin panel for something else that turns it off” ? – I’m sure you see where I am coming from. Should I ask for a refund of the Eventbrite plugin or is it worth having just to import the odd event … I will stick with it for now and see how it goes. Please don’t get me wrong here, I am loving your products and the support!

To confirm the scenario above. I created a repeat event with my Community Test User (i.e. one that had gone through the TEC registration process, not an existing WP user)- and therefore the Community Events Submission form. (I have not allowed anonymous event posts).

On creating the event, I entered a cost £500

I received my email to say an event had been submitted and as Administrator of the site, I approved the event.

The first of the repeat events showed the cost, the others didn’t.

Yes, it was the TEC settings (date display) that I changed prior the cost not showing.

Yes, the eventbrite plugin has been live since installing it.

    I hope this helps.

I have been further developing the site today, and the event has now been removed.

Given the context of how you describe it working, I don’t think it’s a big deal and I think I have just thought of a solution… At the moment, because of my theme (Enfold), the Eventbrite ticket section is really squashed and not very usable so I plan to just import those events and untick the link to eventbrite (yeah I know, $89 to save cut n paste perhaps)

So, what if I were able to hide the cost field from the Community Events form and add a custom field called Cost ?
If you think this is a good idea, what would be the CSS to hide the cost field?

    Sorry for the long reply,
Again, many thanks to all the support team, they have been great this week as I get to grips with the products.

    Nico,

That is fantastic, thanks so much for your help. I was even able to search the support and find the EventEndDate too and do the same.

I just noticed a problem with the date picker though for the Start Date (and End) when the calendar is displayed. The month and year drop downs display over the calendar.

I have signed up to Cloudup (I think Brian showed me a screenshot from there) really cool site. So hopefully, here is a screenshot of what I mean:

In addition. The category hierarchy you helped with works brilliant now. It may have been the latest update, but it shows the complete indented list. (see below). I wonder though if it is possible to make that display thinner? You will see the “68 more >” right over to the right side of the screen. Is there a way to show that expand button closer to the titles?

    Category List Contracted

Here is the view when you click the 68 more > link … (looks great!)

    Category List Expanded

    Thanks again in advance 🙂

*unsure how to embed them as images rather than link. Tried the img tag above but it didn’t work :/ Oh well.

    Hey Brian,
Thanks for the response. My plugin has a Quick CSS field so adding your code to that worked just great, thank you.
However, FYI – my “test user” went through the standard registration and login and has no admin rights at all so it is there for ALL to see.

I will look at obfuscating in general, thanks for the links.

    Hi George,

Thanks for the explanation though it does sound a bit contradictory. If the plugins are “separate” and they do not “integrate”, you explanation is a long winded way of saying “Yes there is bug” 🙂

I accept these things and as long as I know what to expect it helps understand what my users can expect – however I am finding inconsistency with this.

I submitted an event via a test user. Repeats 4 times each month. I still see the cost for the First event but not the other 3. They are all still linked because I can turn on/off the show repeat. However, when on the event with the cost showing and I click the Show All, I only get the 3 events without the cost.

    Strange things are going on.

I will reply in PM with more details for you before heading off to bed.

    Hi George,
Thanks for the reply. Your description above is completely accurate. Yes, I have Eventbrite tickets plugin installed and activated.
However, I purchased this because in my community, many people will post events to eventbrite – I thought by purchasing the plugin I would be able to import the events from their site.
I did not expect the scenario above, where an event is submitted via the community add form and then nobody (including admin) can edit the cost field.
The event in question was submitted and published. It showed the cost field (until it seems I edited it and updated it) – just looked at it again to take a screenshot and the cost no longer shows.

Has this issue not ever come up before?

Hey Nico, I thought for a moment that that didn’t work. I have so many categories – over 70 so even for me it’s confusing just to have one long list.
However, the list IS in the correct order, thank you.
I’m just unsure how the end user will see it but that’s not a reflection on your amazing help, thank you.

I came across this issue also when using the Time.ly product – same issue. It beats me why both organisations have not implemented a hierarchical view. I really need my users to not only select the county they are in but also the area, and I know from experience they will see their county and just select that. That means it is difficult presenting events for a specific area which may contain 4 or more counties.

I will reply below in a private message as you will need a login to view the community add event form. …

Thanks again for all your help.

That’s OK Nico, I really appreciate your help. Look forward to hearing from you.
I understand I should only post one support item per topic (but I do have another issue with the form)
ALL the form fields stretch across the full width of the screen. So Start Date is full width and even the time Hour and Time Minutes and even the AM / PM etc. It doesn’t really look good and not sure why it is not like the Administrator version.

I will try add a screenshot here so you can see. Can you help with this at the same time?

    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi @Barry,

Yes I have tried this and nothing. The Long / Lat fields are blank.
I can confirm my hosting is a shared hosting package.
Is there a way for my hosts to know if Google has blocked a particular server I wonder?

    Hey Barry,

Just another update. I sorted the issue with importing to my local hosted test site. I had not put the correct URL in the OAuth Redirect URI field.

So I enabled the Theme 2014 and tried to import an eventbrite event but still there are no Long / Lat settings.
    This is so frustrating !

There are no other plugins installed on my test.

How is this supposed to work? Is the theme supposed to go off and automatically find the Long / Lat co-ordinates for venues ?

I am wanting to use this to import other peoples events. I will never host my own.

Thanks for the reply Barry. The import issue of course is affecting the Find Events button. Because the imported events do not have Long / Lat co-ordinates nothing is found – what a pain. Now I am thinking, I really need this working.

Is there a way to use the Eventbrite API with my test site? I had to change my Local Host file to point direct to my hosting company as the domain is thisisatest.com – so it can’t be seen to the outside world. I asked Eventbrite how this may be possible and they said I should ask you :/

So the question is: how do I test all this on a site that is not live?

p.s. I do have a plugin that uses the Google API. Though that seems to have stopped working too :/

    Oh the joys of IT.

    Hi Nico,

That would be great if you could do that. Three would be sufficient. When you provide the code is it easy to change to four if necessary?

    Many thanks,
    C
