I tested the event detail event page in the 2011 theme and I still have the error of the Next event link displaying the current event.

The reason I was testing in the 2010 theme over the 2011 theme is because of an original question I posted here a while back: I want the calendar to display in a full width page with the event detail page to display with a sidebar. 2010 produces this desired result, 2011 doesn’t.

I’m sure those with better WordPress skills know how to make this occur in any theme, but I was looking for something that worked “out of the box” for now as I work on improving my ability to tweak things. 🙂

If I use the Default Events Template, “Comments are closed.” displays. Is there something else I need to do to “open” the comments?

If I use the Default Page Template, nothing shows as you said.

Could you be more explicit on where I would save the copied file “plugins/the-events-calendar/admin-views/event-map.php ?

Hm, I don’t seem to be able to edit my post here so here’s an addon. 🙂

    I found the file here: plugins / the-events-calendar / admin-views / event-map.php

I did the edit Brian suggested above and it worked great, except I’m altering the plugin file directly, which would probably be overwritten with an update.

I have figured out that part, yes, about the events folder and the contents thereof.

My question deals specifically with the event-map.php. Brian edited that particular file for allowing custom zoom levels to the google map. It seemed Shane was suggesting a custom template and my question was specifically about that. event-map.php is not one of the template overrides so if I change the event-map.php won’t it be overwritten when there is an update?

I’m sooo close to getting this. Being new to wordpress I know that it’s going to take time…and someone willing to answer silly questions. But I’m getting there! Thanks everyone! 🙂

I understand the part Brian stated, but I’m a little stuck on Shane’s comment about adding a custom template in my theme folder. I know to copy the specific file Brian mentioned then make the necessary additions, but where do I save this new file? I assume I give it the same name, but the location is where I’m stuck. And do I need to add anything else to it to make it work with my theme?

    Yes, exactly.

Partial good news! I’ve discovered why the calendar was using my first event as the calendar title. I was using the Default Page Template. If I switch to Default Events Template the calendar is titled Calendar of Events.

This brings up another problem, however. This page is full width, which gets me into problem #2 as originally stated. I have a vertical line that would normally separate the sidebar from the main content. I’d love to have my calendar full width if the detail page could have the sidebar, but it seems I’m destined to have one problem or the other.

I tried to find this in the FAQ as suggested, but was unable to locate the info. If someone has an easy step by step solution to this, I’m all ears (or eyes as the case may be). 🙂

I greatly appreciate the time, effort and help you are giving. I imagine we newbs are quite frustrating, but I’m working hard at trying to figure this all out! 🙂

I will create a user account for you, but at what level do you need it to be? Do you need full administrator access or something less? Let me know and I will set that up for you and email you the info.

    Thanks!! 🙂

Thank you for your reply, Rob. I’m afraid much of what you said doesn’t help me much without step by step instructions, so I’m resigned to just dealing with #1. The rest I can try to figure out down the road hopefully. (I suspect #6 might have to do with #1.)

In dealing with #1, could I email you the url of my site so you can see the events calendar for yourself? I will disable the coming soon plugin. Or if you need access to the back end, let me know how to “let you in.”
