ParticipantI created a test Facebook group. Here is the ID: 1726278040973469
I created one test event (scheduled for tomorrow) and tried to import it by adding the ID to the “Organization and page usernames / IDs to fetch events from” box on the Import Settings tab. When I switched to the Facebook tab, the import finishes without error and the message says that the group has no events (no true).
So, I created a second event (scheduled for next week) and tried to import it also, using the same approach as above. This time, I get an error:
‘Events from are not importing because Facebook has returned an error, “Unsupported get request.” That error is usually due to an age or country restriction in that Facebook Page’s settings, please see our Facebook API Errors article for options to resolve this.’
This seems really buggy. This is basic group which I just created. Nothing fancy. Why doesn’t this work out of the box, and why am I getting different results based on how many events I’ve created?

Thanks for using our plugins. I can help out here.
The Facebook Importer does not support automatic importing from Groups.
It supports Facebook Pages and Organizations for Automatic Imports.
And it imports manually from user profile events.
For all of those the events must be public without restrictions.
I did successfully manually import from the Group this event: 1105556846171948
That is currently how the importer works.

ParticipantThanks for the information. I must have missed that in the documentation, as this is quite a surprise! This is very disappointing and a huge limitation, in my opinion.
I see the feature request forum that have automatic imports from Facebook groups is on the “longterm roadmap”. Any ETA on having that completed?
Considering that this operation works manually, surely it must be easy to get the import to happen automatically. Can you explain why there is difficulty?
Is there a workaround that we use to get this work in the meantime? Can we set up a cron job or something to have the code activated externally?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am not sure the exact issue of why it does not work with Groups. I believe it to be a permissions issue and not being able to read a Group’s events with our current authorization system. So that would have to change to resolve this. I do not have a timeline when it will happen although it is on our roadmap it will not be in our 4.2 release, which will be out in early summer.
The importer can import any single event that is public as it is being told what the event ID is. The issue with the Groups is we cannot scan the group to get those ids if we could then it would be no problem to import. I do not have a work around for that and can only support the existing features unfortunately.
