ParticipantHi good people
I’m trying to get WPRocket to play nice with Events Calendar in calendar view – it’s the snooziest slowest page load ever without the cache, but the cache breaks the pop-up-on-hover feature which is required.
I can remove any individual file I like from the cache but don’t know which one or ones affect that feature – but I bet one of you guys do know!
Do tell please!
thanks

ParticipantHi there AJ,
So sorry to hear you’re having this trouble! Working around conflicts can be tricky for sure. Let me take a look! π
So I believe the javascript files you should exclude are the following:
- tribe-events.js
- tribe-events-pro.js
Let me know how that goes and if you have any further questions!
Best,
Shelby π

ParticipantHi there
thanks for your suggestion which unfortunately didn’t work out π
it seems that disabling the cache on that page is the only way to keep the pop-up boxes working…
do you know of other methods for speeding up the events calendar?
thanks

ParticipantHi AJ,
I’m not certain as to why you’re experiencing slow load times with your calendar. Because I’m unable to replicate this issue on my testing server, this seems that it may be a theme or plugin conflict. Would you please work through the steps here to test for a conflict?
This will help me be able to better assist you. π
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks Shelby,
I did do as you suggested – which gave me a bit of trouble with info being lost as a result of deactivating a certain plugin but hey ho – and it’s not really possible to determine which plugin particularly slows it down. Well not possible for me anyhow.
On a twenty-17 theme with no non-Events plugins activated then yes it loads quicker, though hardly lightning fast. The plugin that seemed to have most effect was Woocommerce. But it was defo slower when Divi theme was re-instated…
These are very popular plugins and themes so seems a shame if they don’t sit well together…?
best wishes

ParticipantHey AJ,
No worries! Let’s try an alternative method to see what’s slowing things down then. π
Would you mind installing this plugin and running itΒ to see what’s hogging the server resources?
I agree that these conflicts are unfortunate, but I think there may be something we could do If I had some more information.
Cheers,
Shelby π

ParticipantHi Shelby
thanks, yes I’ve used that plugin before – what do you make of the results? The Elegant Themes Updater can be deactivated (and just switched on for updates, that’s a ridic amount of resource). Jetpack also heavy and we only use that for google analytics, so I’ll try and find an alternative to that. Not sure we can do much about Woocommerce or Yoast SEO – both pretty handy!
Here’s a list and I’ve also included a screenshot (in case you’re more of a ‘visual’ type!)
cheers

ParticipantHey AJ,
Thanks for looking into that. I definitely think the changes you’ve made will be helpful. I also think you should check out the following resources:
- This Article about Performance Considerations
- and This one about Caching
- finally, Perhaps Geoff’s comments here will be helpful
Unfortunately, this is about the extent of the help I can provide on this issue, as it seems to be a combination of factors, and not necessarily super related to our plugins. It may also be helpful to take a look at your server limitations and talk to your hosting company to see if upgrading or any further server caching techniques might be able to help with this?
Best of luck with this project!

ParticipantThanks Shelby, you’ve done plenty. The folks at WP Rocket, bless ’em, have come up with the solution which involved excluding more of the js files – it’s now super-cached!
best wishes, Ajay
