I have a staging server and a production server. Our content team inputs events on staging, but programmatic changes are done on staging.

I usually will export production events data, and import them to staging, to make sure they are in sync. I do this with the WordPress import tool.

However, it looks like I am getting many more events in the database than there actually are, and I believe its slowing down the events calendar.

I need to know how to clean out these extra events, but keep the ones I want.

    Howdy Lucas,

Welcome to our support forums and thanks for reaching out to us. I’ll try to help you here!

Since you are migrating data from the production server into a staging server, I’m not sure if there’s something wrong with our product at all or it this is just a consequence of the ‘sync’ process you are running. Let’s try a couple of things:

    • Clear all type of caches from the staging site.
    • Follow the steps described in our Testing for conflicts guide.
    • Check if every time you import events from the live site to staging the number of events grow (it crates all events again) or if it’s just adding the new events.
    • Based on the live site, How many events should you be seeing in staging?

Please let me know about your findings so we can make this right,
    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

I’ve followed your guide with the same issues still happening.

It still says All (2853), but the amount of items in the list is 93, which is correct.

When I try to go to event pages, I get 502 errors.

Since there is a new version of the plugin, and actually only 10 upcoming events, can you tell me how to uninstall The Events calendar, as well as purge the DB table, and reinstall it.

Also is there documentation for properly exporting and importing events so these repeats don’t happen?

    Thank you,

    -Lucas

    Hey Lucas,

Sorry to hear you are still stuck with this issue 🙁

Regarding the 502 error, that sounds like a config or other error in the server, not sure about what can be causing it.

Can you tell me how to uninstall The Events calendar, as well as purge the DB table, and reinstall it.

    • To uninstall the plugin just deactivate it and then delete the files (from the plugins panel or directly via FTP).
    • If you don’t have any content a part from Events in the site, you can create a fresh WordPress install. That would be the best. If you are not able to rest the install you can delete the events manually (or via Bulk Delete plugin) and the run Optimize database plugin, after using the plugins you can delete/deactivate them.
    • Now you can re-download the plugin from ‘My Account > Downloads’ (top bar of this site) and re-install them

Also is there documentation for properly exporting and importing events so these repeats don’t happen?

Using the WordPress export/import tool is what I would recommend. Just be sure to import venues and organizers before events.

Hope this info helps you get the staging site up and running,
    Best,
    Nico

PS: make sure to back-up your data before doing all of this.
