ParticipantHi there,
I just installed Events Calendar Pro and Community Events. I’ve been testing it out myself and with a few users. In Community settings, it’s set that all user-submitted events get marked as Pending Review for an admin to approve.
A few questions have come up:
1) When a user submits a new event, they get an on-screen notice that the event has been submitted. It does not indicate anywhere that the event is pending review, which is confusing to the users who thought an event would get published. Is there a built-in way to communicate this, or does it require changing the template?
2) When a user submits a new event, the name of the event is shown on the next screen, with links for View and Edit. However, for sites where submitted events are pending Admin approval per the settings, these two links don’t work. This is also confusing to the user.
3) Is any email or other notification provided to the user (not the admin) when an event is submitted to the queue, or when an event moves from pending to published? How is a user to know when an event is published? When we tested as a regular user (Subsciber), and listed all events for that user from the List My Events url (events/community/list/), only events that are published show up on the list. There isn’t anything to indicate a pending event has been submitted. Our testers found this confusing, so sometimes they submitted the same event multiple times thinking the submission hadn’t gone through when it was in fact pending review.
4) Does any of the above functionality change if we set it to “draft” instead of “pending review”?
Thank you for your time!

ParticipantAlso, if a user goes back to edit an Approved/Published event, does it automatically go back in the queue for review?

MemberHello Jamila–welcome to the forums and thanks for getting in touch! I’m stoked you’ve been testing out Community Events and you raise some good questions here.
1) When a user submits a new event, they get an on-screen notice that the event has been submitted.
For now, it would require changing the template. I wonder if it would be better to change the notice in this case to “Event submitted for review.” That would communicate where the draft went and they could still click the My Events link at the top of the page to see all submitted events with a status.
2) When a user submits a new event, the name of the event is shown on the next screen, with links for View and Edit. However, for sites where submitted events are pending Admin approval per the settings, these two links don’t work.
I wasn’t able to replicate the same issue using the default Twenty Fifteen theme. Clicking both links allowed me (signed in as a non-admin Subscriber) to view and edit the event I had submitted. Is it possible you’re hitting a conflict with your theme or another plugin? You can follow these steps to test that further.
3) Is any email or other notification provided to the user (not the admin) when an event is submitted to the queue, or when an event moves from pending to published? How is a user to know when an event is published?
No, there is currently not a notification right out of the box that will alert the author of an event submission once the event has been moved from Review to Published. However, you may be able to get that using a plugin for status notifications, like this one. That may require you to to set the default role of registered event submitters to a role other than Subscriber, depending on the plugin being used for the notifications.
I do see that this has also been suggested in our new feature forum. It needs some more votes, so I’d definitely encourage you to add yours. 🙂
4) Does any of the above functionality change if we set it to “draft” instead of “pending review”?
Good question–no, none of the functionality changes when setting submissions to Draft by default instead of Pending Review.
Also, if a user goes back to edit an Approved/Published event, does it automatically go back in the queue for review?
No, at that point, it stays Published. To be honest, I’m surprised this hasn’t been suggested before. If you have a moment, I’d love for you to add it to our feature request forum so it can be considered.
Thanks so much for these questions! I can tell you’ve thoroughly tested the plugin and everything you’ve mentioned is excellent feedback.
Cheers!
