    Dear Events Calendar team,

    we have used Events Calendar Pro for several months without any problems. Following an update of Events Calendar Pro, however, the plugin disappeared in WP. Instead, I was adviced by the system to install the free plugin first. When trying to do this, I got an error message that the destination folder already exists. What can I do? With all of this, I need to ensure that no event data is lost.

    Hi there Matthias,

    Thanks for getting in touch with us and sorry to hear about this issue 🙁

    You always need to run Events Calendar PRO alongside The Events Calendar, if not it won’t work at all! I guess that this might be the result of an issue while updating. Please try the following steps:

    • While the steps below shouldn’t affect the site content in any way it’s always advised to make a back-up of the site database and files before proceeding.
    • Access the site via FTP or File manager, and delete the folders ‘the-events-calendar’ and ‘events-calendar-pro’.
    • Download the latest version of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO from ‘My Account > Downloads’.
    • Re-install and activate the plugins.

    Hi Nico,

    thanks for your advice. I got it working again.

    Just one more question: Is it necessary to use exactly the same version of Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO? Rigth now, an update of Events Calendar (4.2.7) is aviable while PRO is still in version 4.2.6. Shall I do the update?

    Is it necessary to use exactly the same version of Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO?

    All of our plugins (not only The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO) need to be in the same major version. The major version is always switched when we make a feature release (includes new features no bug fixes) for example just launched version 4.3. In this case 4.3 is the major version number, and as the weeks go by we will start to have maintenance releases for the different plugins (release with bug fixes), for example: 4.3.1 would be the first maintenance release number which can just include a few plugins, the rest of the plugins not included in the maintenance release will stay on the same version number 4.3. Finally we occasionally have hotfix releases (jut one urget bugfix) which add a fourth number to version, for example: 4.3.0.1. You can read more about this in our release schedule page.

    Summing up, just make sure the two first numbers in the version of the plugins match: 4.2.6 with 4.2.7 should go right. On the other hand: 4.2.7 with 4.3 won’t work together.
