    Hi

I am trying to import a one-time event using the ical url of the event from the website: http://youngstownlive.com/events/ .
I paste the url and the event is located and appears for upload. But, when I select it and hit import, it appears to be importing the event, but the event is not imported. Below is a video from Jing for clarification. the ical url I am attempting to upload is:

    http://youngstownlive.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=eventon_ics_download&event_id=21250&sunix=1451592000&eunix=1451523600

    Jing Video:

    http://screencast.com/t/jqAjaQnXsh

All of my plugins except for my Modern Tribe plugins have been deactivated.

    Thank you,
    Stacey

    Hey Stacey,

Thanks for reaching out to us! I apologize for the delay on this thread due to vacation over the holidays.

It looks like the reason it is failing is due to WordPress rejecting the upload due to the “file format” since the format isn’t implicitly set on the file. If you try downloading the file, renaming it on your desktop with a “.ics” file type you should be able to upload it and import the event using the “.ics File” import option within the iCal importer settings.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi josh,

I am having the same issue with using the url to upload recurring events. It shows its loading, but doesn’t show up. I don’t really want to enter each recurring date with an individual .ics file. Is there anyway I can get the url to upload properly?

    Thank you,

    Stacey

    Hey Stacey,

Would you mind sending the URL that you’re using in attempting to import the recurring events? Is it coming from another calendar or is it a file that has been uploaded to WordPress site?

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

I downloaded the Three Dog Nite concert event that is to take place on January 24th at the url: http://youngstownlive.com/events/ and added the .ics extension to the event. and tried to import it using the .ics file import and it still doesn’t work. It does the same thing when I try loading the same event using the ical url. The ical url for this event is: http://youngstownlive.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=eventon_ics_download&event_id=20461&sunix=1453663800&eunix=1453597200. So, loading any event as a single or recurring event utilizing an ical url or an ics file loaded into my WordPress site isn’t working.

    Thank you,
    Stacey

    Hey Stacey,

I tested by going to the event page on Youngstown Live and used the “Calendar” link on that event to download the event for import (https://cloudup.com/cvvl1yWAFcd).

Unfortunately, when downloading, the file is output with additional characters and no set file type extension. If I take the d0wnloaded file and change the name to “three_dog_nigh.ics” I’m able to import it using the file option of the iCal importer. Does following those steps not work for you here?

do you know if the Youngstown website has a live calendar feed that you could use to pull from? If so, you could just add that URL for import settings and just select the desired events for import.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

For whatever reason I cannot upload any .ics files from any site at all. I thought that it might be just that site in particular, but it seems to be an issue across the board. I went to another site that happens to use Modern Tribe’s Events calendar: http://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/event/garden-guide-training/ and downloaded the .ics file for the Garden Guide Training taking place on April 1st, and that event would not load either. the odd thing is the .ics files load fine into my media library (even the three_dog_night.ics you worked with). When I choose the event for the one-time ical import it pulls in the event when I hit the search, but when I select the event check box and click the import selected button nothing happens. I have it set to publish, so that isn’t the issue. I don’t get the dialogue that the event has been added and it doesn’t show up in my calendar. I have deactivated all my plugins and set my site to the 2014 theme to eliminate the possibility of a theme or plugin conflict, and that didn’t work either.

    Thanks,
    Stacey

    Hi Josh,

I created a directory called calendar-uploads in my wp-content directory and placed an .ics file within and tried to upload it from the url. I click the box for the event and hit the “import selected now” button, but the event doesn’t import with this method either.

    Thank you,
    Stacey

    Hey Stacey,

Let’s take a step back here for a second to help see where the potential issue may be. To see if the iCal importer is working at all, can you try a One Time import of an iCal URL (or file will work here as well) for “http://www.wpshindig.com/events/?ical=1” and see if that is able to show events available for import.

If that doesn’t, would you mind sending a screenshot of the import settings used as well as any errors or warnings that get included with the failure?

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

I tried importing using the ical url you provided. The events did not import to the calendar. Below is the the link to the Jing video of that process.

    http://screencast.com/t/ZKbNLte2hyB

I then tried to upload the events using the .ics file, which threw an error when I tried to upload it as demonstrated in the Jing video below.

    http://screencast.com/t/QG1gfD1dT

I then attempted to download a single event (Startup Happy Hour on January 15th) from the http://www.wpshindig.com/events and import it, and I got the same results. ical importer will find the event, I will check the box and click the import button, but nothing happens (video below).

    Thank you,
    Stacey

    Hey Stacey,

Thanks for following up and for providing the process video! Definitely helps to see that!

One thing to check would be to follow the import process from your first video with the developer tools open in chrome. First, you can check to see if there are any javascript errors on the page that may be impacting here. Also, after clicking the Import Selected button and the screen reloading, check the “console” tab within developer tools to see if there is anything logged there that might give us more information.

Also, you could try turning on WP_DEBUG and see if there are any warnings or errors that show up directly on the page.

Let me know if this reveals anything new?

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

I followed the same process that I did in the previous video and the console didn’t log anything. I also set the WP_DEBUG to true and nothing showed up on the page. To my understanding (I’ve never used the WP_DEBUG before) the page should be showing some notices onscreen — not just warnings or errors, but I’m not getting any onscreen messages at all. I’m not sure if that is relevant to my issue or not.

    Thank you!

    Hi Josh,

Let me take that back. I did receive some notices when I hit my “Add and Event” Community events link. So the WP_DEBUG is working. I did leave the debug to “true” just in case you wanted to take a look at the site as well: http://www.whoknewytown.com . I am not sure if you and your support team are allowed to login to accounts, but I can give you my login info if that would help — I’m getting desperate! (-:.

Thanks again for your continuing help!

    Hey Stacey,

Thanks for following up with us here.

Unfortunately we have a strict policy against logging into customer sites.

With WP_DEBUG_LOG set to true as well, you can find a new log in your “wp-content” folder. There it should log anything that may have been missed. If so, can you copy the logs there into a private reply here?

    Thanks!
