I’ve read a lot of posts about recurring events and ticketing, but I can’t quite suss out the answer to my particular question.

I own the PRO calendar: I bought it for a broader purpose, but now I use its license for a nonprofit professional theatre company’s site. We’ve hashed together some simple PayPal online box office functions, but we’re looking for something more streamlined, with considerable control, and that keeps visitors on-site.

Our events are typically recurring: a production will run four weeks. The calendar’s recurrence customization is pretty slick, so I can define one recurring event that covers most of the run (usually Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 pm) and a second for matinees (Sundays at 2 pm). We need to be able to sell tickets to individual performances, however.

If I break out of series each individual date from those recurring events, will I be able to sell tickets to individual performances with one of the ticketing plugins?

I really like the calendar–it does pretty much everything I want it to do–and I’d really like to find a ticket solution that works with it rather than requiring a lot of duplicate effort.

Hey sowhenisyourshow, thanks for getting in touch!

Awesome questions. Right off the bat, I will say that the WooCommerce Tickets plugin  is a nice complement to The Events Calendar. You can create as many tickets for a single event as you’d like and integrate it to with the payment gateway of your choice (WooCommerce itself has many gateway integrations, though some for an upgraded fee). I personally enjoy WooCommerce because it offers a ton of flexibility as far as maintaining control of your sales directly on your site.

That said, I also want to caution that recurring events currently do not support tickets. In other words, you would not be able to create a recurring event that runs for four weeks and sell tickets for each individual instance of that recurring series. We are working on something that would solve that, but honestly it’s probably a little ways off.

You definitely can create that recurring series and do exactly what you describe, which is breaking events out of the series and add tickets to them individually. There is still a fair amount of duplicative work there, but it certainly will work.

Does this help answer your questions? Please feel free to let me know if you have any follow-up questions here and I’d be happy to help. 🙂

    Cheers!
    Geoff
