Thumbnails Displaying Inconsistently

My events page is at https://solace.com/events

One of my first events, coming up on 12/1 so it shows up in the default view of this month, its featured image comes up in its original aspect ratio, but tiny, instead of the thumbnail.

But when I click to December, the event still appears, obviously, but it’s thumbnail is perfect!

Then get this, when I click back to November, I get the thumbnail, looking just like I want it to! Yay.

I added another event to this month and it behaved the same way. I’ve tried different browsers on different systems, clearing caches and purging my site’s cache. I’ve tried deleting and re-uploading the image, forcing regeneration of the thumbnail, even plugging in completely new and different images — same thing no matter what I do.

Thank you for being so thorough and including screenshots. Before we go any further, I’ll need you to please review our Testing for conflicts guide and reply back with what you find out.

Can you confirm if this is happening with all events, or just a few? If only a few, do you notice a pattern with the featured images with issues compared to the featured images without issues?

Thanks, Hunter. It’s any image I try for all events, every time. I hadn’t done full conflict testing cuz it’s a pain on my live site and I was hoping this might be a known issue. So I fired up a staging version and troubleshot the sucker. Figured it out pretty quickly through plugin disablement. Confirmed on multiple browsers, in staging environment as part of playing with tons of stuff, and testing JUST this on my live site.

Two words: Jetpack Photon.

With Photon activated, all events show the lame/miniaturized image until you click over to another month, but with it deactivated they all work fine and load the square thumbnails when you first load the page.

Hopefully that’s something you can figure out a fix/workaround for, and maybe even add “fix that!” to your roadmap. : )
