Hello
I’m beginning to build a site for a music festival near Lyon (France)
I’ve entered 19 locations and up to now 6 comming events.
Each event is connected to a location. The events show the proper location
see for example : http://swp-wp.com/rhinojazz/concert/bobby-sue/but the map centers in west Africa and shows nothing in France http://swp-wp.com/rhinojazz/concerts/map/
Any help ?
April 8, 2015 at 7:40 am #954023JoshParticipantHey,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I took a look at your site and noticed what you’re describing. Also, I noticed that it doesn’t appear to be a Map issue on the surface. When looking at that view, you can see that it isn’t pulling in any events on that view so there isn’t anything to display on the map.
- First off, have you tried following our Testing for Conflicts procedures to ensure there isn’t a conflict that is causing that view to not display properly?
- Are you on a shared hosting plan? Sometimes the Google Maps API will stop working if the Google query limit has been exceeded and this can be a result of some shared hosts.
- You can try installing the Event Rocket plugin (not supported by us), which will display the latitude/longitude coordinates in a meta box in the venue editing screen. If the coordinates are not displaying or are incorrect, then that suggests Google’s API is not reading the data correctly.
- Lastly, do you see an option in the Events > General settings to build venue location data? Sometimes data for pre-existing venues can be lost when upgrading to the PRO plugin, and this option will help regenerate it.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

That’s strange. Are you using any sort of caching plugin? If so, when switching themes and deactivating plugins, did you purge the cache before deactivating the caching plugin?
Would it be possible to see the site with the default theme and other plugins deactivated to see the issue persisting there? I understand if this isn’t possible on your main site. If not, would you be able to set up a staging area on your current hosting environment as a subdomain of your current site?
Thanks!

Sorry for my late answer, but I was working on another project.
I did what you said. I’ve installed a fresh copy of the site here
http://swp.fr/rhino-test/I’ve deactivated all plugins except events clandar & events calendar pro
I’ve activated the theme “Twenty Fifteen”If you go to the event http://swp.fr/rhino-test/concert/afrorockerz/ you will see at the bottom a small map generated by the events calendar plugin. This Map is OK.
It’s OK again with all other events , for example : http://swp.fr/rhino-test/concert/bobby-sue/But if I want to see the map http://swp.fr/rhino-test/concerts/map/ there is just one marker in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean !!! (And I know that “Lorette” is not in the ocean : See on Google Map )
Any Idea ?
Best regards
Pascal

April 20, 2015 at 2:52 pm #956843JoshParticipantHey pderathe,
Thanks for setting this up for us to look at!
I took a look at the site and noticed that the issue appears to be with the Google Maps API. When creating or saving a venue, the API should grab the longitude and latitude coordinates for the venue and store it as meta for use within the calendar. When creating a new venue on your site I’m seeing that the coordinates are not getting created https://cloudup.com/cmN9KO7BwTz.
I tested on another install with the latest versions of our plugins and was able to get the venue to save the coordinates and display properly on the site.
Out of curiosity, are you on a shared hosting environment. If so, it looks as if your web server has reached its free Google Maps API limit, unfortunately if this is the case it will hinder the ability to use the Map view of the plugin.
I apologize for the inconvenience. You could reach out to your hosting company to see if there are any options on their side if the IP address continues to hit the max number of requests to the Google Maps API.
Thanks!

Maybe your right, but how can you explain that another plugin using Google Map Api is working properly on the same site :
http://swp.fr/rhino-test/les-lieux/ ?the name of the plugins :
WP Google Maps
WP Google Maps – Gold Add-on
WP Google Maps – Pro Add-on
(editor : http://www.wpgmaps.com/)Any idea ?

I must add :
How could you explain that your map plugin is working OK for “single marker” in the single event display ?
see for example http://swp-wp.com/rhinojazz/concert/bobby-sue/For me, it seems that your plugin is able to calculate the longitude and latitude coordonates but somewhere in the whole map display (see here) there must be a bug. Don’t you follow me ?
Best regards

This is definitely a great question. The issue here is the use of different parts of the Google Maps API. When looking at the image on your single event, you’ll see that it is an embedded map using the Google Maps Embed API https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/embed/guide.
However, when using the Map view, it is required to have the longitude and latitude for the venue which is generated using the Geocoding API https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/. This should be added when the venue is created, however sometimes this doesn’t occur due to limits being hit.
In regards to the limits, you can see that the Google Maps Embed API (used for the maps that are working on your site) don’t have a stated usage limit while the Geocoding API has a limit of 2,500 requests every 24 hours.
I apologize for the inconvenience of this issue, however hopefully this gives you more information about the issue and gives you a context to use when reaching out to your hosting provider.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!
