I received an email from someone in your support group that read: “I see you have a non-standard WordPress theme. We can only provide support for Twenty Sixteen and the like.”

What themes do you support and what do you consider “non-standard WordPress themes”? What does “and the like” mean?

I’ve look on your site under sales and Support sections but haven’t been able to find an answer.

    Please advise.

    Thank you Gregg

    Hey Gregg,

Thanks for reaching out. I think you are referring to this forum thread, is that correct? → https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/structured-data-errors-2/

So, we actually support a wide number of themes, but in the context of that specific issue, here is what is meant:

    • We guarantee support for default WordPress themes like Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Fifteen, etc.
    • We guarantee support for other themes that pass the official WordPress theme review process: this includes other themes available on WordPress.org.
    • We do not guarantee support for themes that would not be accepted on WordPress.org. This includes many page-builder themes, for example.
    • We also do not guarantee support for bespoke themes — themes that a singular development team has made for a specific site.

☝️ With this in mind, we certainly try to support as many themes as possible, but when it comes to things like the structured data issues you find on your site, these sorts of issues could be arising based on the specific markup of your theme—this is not the sort of thing we would therefore consider a “bug” on our end, and so the best course of action would be to contact the theme creators and/or work with HTML validation tools to ensure the HTML is valid throughout.

As for a list of themes we support, we actually don’t have a specific list at this time but are in the process of building a page with information about recommended/supported themes.

I hope this information helps! Please let me know if there are any other issues or questions I can try to help with.

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi George,

If there is no information posted on the themes you support, then how can a customer like myself make an informed decision about what theme to use?

I’m now caught in a poor situation, and you’ve provided no solution other than entirely changing a theme. It’s really not a very customer-centered product if you’re not providing such critical information.

    Very disappointed.

Who in sales can I contact about this issue?

    Hey Gregg,

I just provided a four-bullet list with some details about finding a good theme. Did you see my reply?

If you are looking for a list of literal, specific themes we support, by name, this is not something we are likely to ever provide: there are literally dozens of thousands of individual themes out there, with more being created and put up on the internet every day.

It is thus not physically possible for us to test each and every single theme out there, especially with any degree of thoroughness, and so we provide general recommendations like the four I listed above that I hope help you find a good theme.

If you are having specific issues in your current theme, then please clarify what specific issues you face; please provide a link to where these are visible on your site; and please post your site’s complete, un-edited System Information as shown here → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/

    Thanks!
    George

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
    The Events Calendar Support Team
