    Hi,

We’re seeing an issue where if you submit an event with an error, such as leaving out the title or description, the Organizer Details fields show up twice when the form reloads. Those fields include:

    – Organizer Name:
    – Phone:
    – Website:
    – Email:

You can see a screenshot of this by visiting https://nimbus.everhelper.me/client/notes/share/385166/inrtown6m7g1w4ufavhw.

    Thanks for looking into it.

    Hey Jonathan,

Thanks for reaching out, and for including your site’s “System Information”.

I tried recreating this issue several times on my testing site and was unable to reproduce the bug. I’m using a default theme and am wondering if you, too, would be willing to test this bug when you have a default theme active on your site.

A default theme is something like Twenty Twelve, Twenty Sixteen, or any other of the “year name” themes released by WordPress officially.

I would recommend activating one of these themes, and then trying to recreate the bug on your site.

This will be useful because there might be a JavaScript error within your theme that is working causing the organizer elements to break; perhaps not, but this testing will reveal that definitively.

Let me know what you find! If the theme change makes no difference, and you still get the exact same bug, then we can explore some other possibilities from there.

    Thank you,
    George

Thanks for getting back to us George. We switched to the Twenty Fifteen theme and deactivated all plugins except for the Events Calendar ones, and unfortunately, no luck.

We’ve now found two separate issues that relate to submitting the form with errors. Could these be related at all? The other issue was posted on https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/bug-event-start-date-end-date-reset-when-errors-returned/ and has yet to be fixed.

Let me know if there are any other steps you’d like us to try.

    Hey Jonathan,

I’m sorry to hear that no progress has been made. Can you share a link to your site’s “Community submission” page so I can take a look at the issue live on your site?

As for the other two issues, I’m glad to see that Josh and our team are on top of the first issue. I don’t have much to add to the discussion around that issue, but I’m wondering, what is the other issue you are referring to?

    Cheers,
    George

    Hey Jonathan,

To address things in reverse order, I would first just like to say that I’m really sorry that our pace of getting a bugfix out the door has been frustratingly slow (in regards to your other issue). We are nearing the release of a large maintenance release with many bugfixes in it; and, more importantly, after this release we are implementing some changes in our development team structure to facilitate speedier bugfix releases. The changes should be quite significant; however, we finalized the changes while more than halfway into the current release cycle, and so we are working quickly to get this release out the door and then implement our team changes.

I only mention this to provide some context for the slowness of the bugfix. We agree with you that we have been dropping the ball on the speed of fixes recently, and fixing this problem is one of the biggest priorities of 2016 for us (if not the biggest priority outright).

Now, back to the duplicate-organizer issue. Thanks for the link to this! I remain stumped by your bug because I can create it on your site; however, when I try all of the exact same steps on my own site (same theme etc.), I cannot produce the problem.

I’m not giving up on the problem, but I just wanted to be clear that we’re still investigating it and working on it. Once we find the problem we can release a fix, but until then I’m still trying to get the problem to happen.

I’m sorry about the current situation with these two issues, Jonathan. Please let me know your thoughts on all of this.

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi George,

I really appreciate the honesty and the time you took to respond. It means a lot considering how many of these I’m sure you have to write on a regular basis. You all seem committed to tackling bugs more quickly moving forward, and we’re excited to see the new processes in action.
    ————————–
In regards to the duplicate organizer bug, it’s so odd because we are using a default theme and have all plugins turned off except for:

    – The Events Calendar (v4.0.5)
    – The Events Calendar PRO (v4.0.5)
    – The Events Calendar: Community Events (v4.0.4)

The only thing that seems potentially strange is that the Community Events plugin is still on version 4.0.4. Is that the correct version?

    Thanks again for the help.

Thanks again for being so upfront and for the detailed notes about how your versioning works. Let me know what you and the developer find or if you have any questions.

No worries, Jonathan! I’m sorry for the lack of concrete action at this point, but will indeed update this thread once we can pin down the issue.

Thank you so much for your continued patience here. It means a lot.

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi George,

I wanted to check in to see if there’s been any update on this issue, and whether you all can give us an ETA on when a developer might be able to look at it.

    Thanks a ton.

    Hi Jonathan,

There is no update at this time, I’m sorry. I would recommend updating to the most recent version of our plugins all of the time—our most recent updates could possibly help, for example.

After each time you update, check on the issue and see if it persists. I do genuinely hope that one day you will do this and the issue is gone; but no, I unfortunately do not have an ETA on when this will be.

At this time I still cannot even recreate the issue locally 🙁 And to be clear, our developers *are* already looking on it. The tricky part is trying to come up with an actual fix!

I hate being the one to bear this bad news. I appreciate your patience.

Thanks George. I updated the plugins and unfortunately, no luck. Please let me know if you hear anything from the developers.

    Have a good one.

Thanks Jonathan, I’m sorry about the timelines here. We are hoping to publish bugfixes more rapidly and I hope that a fix arrives soon.
