Showing Past Events with Mini Calendar

I’m trying to display both a monthly grid calendar (defaulting to current month) and a list of events for that month on the same page.

I’m trying to modify the mini calendar to do this but it will only list upcoming events, while I would also like to list events in the past if you flip to past months. Is there a way to enable past events in mini view?

The only other solution I can think of is to modify the scale of the large calendar, while running a second loop to list events underneath.

There is a similar question here, which I have applied to my theme, but it only changes the grid calendar to the date argument passed, and does not affect the event list.

When you flip through the months in mini view, the list below should update to show events for that month you flipped to, whether the month is in the past or the future (see screenshot).

Can you please clarify what you would like to change, or is the mini calendar not working the way I described?

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, a past month’s events display in the grid, but I’d also like them to display in the list below, even if they’ve passed. (I have a feeling this might actually be deprecated behaviour?)

I also know the mini calendar list loads with x number upcoming events, but ideally would like it to list the current month’s events instead (including past events).

Hi Brian,

Thanks for following up! Just to clarify, the events listed below the event should match the month in the grid. So if you click back in the grid view, the events below will update to display events for the same month as the grid is displaying. This is the case going back into past months and into future months.

However, to show past events and current events together when the page first loads, you would need to customize the way the widget works (there currently isn’t an out of the box way to do this). While we do not do customizations, our themer’s guide provides some great info on customizing our plugins and is the best place to start if you’d like to give it a shot! We are also happy to answer questions along the way and help point you in the right direction. I would recommend taking a look at the widget files in wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/views/pro/widgets/mini-calendar, as well as the mini calendar widget class, found at wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/Tribe/Mini_Calendar_Widget.php.

If you’d like to get some help with the code, we also have a list of recommended developers that you could contact.

After some more testing and disabling any customization, I’ve found this to be true for all months except the current month; if I navigate away from and back to the current month, it does not display any past events, only upcoming ones (if there are any). And looking at the demo on ModernTribe’s site, I am now realising this is indeed expected behaviour.

It would be nice if this “show past events for current month” option could be toggled on and off, instead of assumed.

I understand where you’re coming from. We always try to set things up in a way that will work for the most users, but I can see how having the option could be useful.
