Currently using the free version of Events Calendar (Avada Theme) and I got the following 2 questions:

    1. Is is possible to show current events (like I have right now), but also events in the past. I want to show them as thumbnails on homepage as they are holidays.

    2. When an event is fully booked. Is it possible to marque as ‘complete’ somewhere?

What do I need to make both question work and happen 🙂 ?

    Thanks in advance, best regards!

Good evening Truss and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!

Thank you for your interest in our products.
We’ll be glad to answer your questions.

    1. Is is possible to show current events (like I have right now), but also events in the past. I want to show them as thumbnails on homepage as they are holidays.

The short answer is yes, you can customize calendar views to your liking, including widgets.
In fact, we built our plugins with that very goal in mind.

However, there is currently no built-in functionality to accomplish the exact results you are looking for.
This means that you will need to do some template customization or custom page templates to achieve your goals.

You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

Our Pro add-on lets you use shortcodes and advanced widgets (for these same shortcodes): https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-widget-shortcodes/#event-list-shortcode

This is how you could display the calendar on the page of your choice (including the home page).
You will be interested to know that we are about to expand our shortcode list to include a shortcode for the full calendar as well very soon.

As an alternative, you can hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.

    2. When an event is fully booked. Is it possible to marque as ‘complete’ somewhere?

    Yes, that is certainly possible.

However, I am not sure what your current setup looks like. So I have a couple of follow-up questions:

    1. How are you tracking that your event is booked ? Manually ? Through a plugin ?
    2. Are you using an E-Commerce plugin on your site ? ( WooCommerce, EDD, etc… )

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

    Thank you for your response!

To directly answer the 2nd question:

This is currently done manual. You have to keep in mind that it only requires 10 persons to be ‘complete’.
A function where I could set it to complete or soemthing would be great.

To get back to the 1st question. At what term would this be possible, I’m not technical so would like to have the listed view (past-present-future) done/be possible realy easy. What would you recommmend for now?

    Thanks again!

    Best regarsds!

    Good evening Truss,

For the second question, based on your answer, my best recommendation would be for you to use our premium Event Tickets Plus plugin: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-event-tickets-plus/

Using that plugin in combination with WooCommerce (which is free), would allow you to completely automate the handling of how many spaces are left for an event. Including when the event is fully booked.

It also opens the door for people to complete their purchases online.

If that’s too involved to your liking, you can opt for our free Event Tickets plugin: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-event-tickets/

That also handles stock (remaining places for the event), but it works on an RSVP only basis. In other words, there is no actual transaction, just a reservation of a spot (or many) at the event.

As per your first question, just to set expectations, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues.

We have built our plugins in a way that allows our customers to tweak them to their liking. But we unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization.

With that in mind, and understanding you are not that technical, this leaves you with a couple of options:

    1. Find the view or shortcode that comes the closest to what you want to do. You might want to take a look at http://wpshindig.com/events/ where all the possible views from Pro are available.
    2. Hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.

My recommendation would be to go through option 1 first.
If that doesn’t seem to suit your needs, I would then ask for quotes in option 2.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

Thank you again for the quick answer.

The ticket plugin is way too big for the few events we offer (only max 6-8 persons) and we handle everything manual no woo-commerce.

So to make it to a next step:

    1. Is there a future, that marks the event image –> complete (I saw in a example that it could mark an event as featured (featured image).

    2. I use the list view. Could you specify where to put the shortcode for viewing the list view (past/present/future) events?/ Or where could I find these shortcodes?

    Thank you again!

    Kind regards,

    Truss

    Good evening Truss,

    Thank you for writing back!

    1. Is there a future, that marks the event image –> complete (I saw in a example that it could mark an event as featured (featured image).

I would need to see that specific example to tell you how that was accomplished. But it is most likely done:

    1. Manually (by simply changing the image or using an image watermark plugin. E.g.: https://wordpress.org/plugins/image-watermark/
    2. Automatically through the use of a template customization and most likely tied to one of our Tickets plugins.

I totally understand that in your case even the tickets plugin might be too big. However, in the case of an automated solution, you still need to have a trigger to “tell” your template that the event is fully booked.

    2. I use the list view. Could you specify where to put the shortcode for viewing the list view (past/present/future) events?/ Or where could I find these shortcodes?

This is a great question. Upon further research, it seems like there is no built-in date parameter directly available in the list view shortcode.
I am sorry about that. Hopefully this will get added to the upcoming enhancements of our shortcodes.

But, in the meantime, the good news is that you could get exactly what you are looking for (either by extending the shortcodes or doing some template customizations).

To achieve that, you will need to use the tribe_get_events function: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-tribe_get_events/

As you can see, this would allow you to specify start and end dates to your liking.

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Geoff B.
