I’m not one for complaining, but I am seriously disappointed with this plugin. All the promotional material paints a picture of ease and effortlessness, but its quite the opposite. I found the knowledge based shortcodes not very friendly to non coders and developers and having paid so much money for this product, I expected a more polished finished and not the scenario I find myself in, where I cannot seem to just show the details of a single event using the shortcodes.

Why isn’t there just a simple list that shows this shortcode will display the full event details page. I’m lost and don’t find the forum helpful as it feels everyone is some sort of developer.

Why can’t every event you create, just have a simple shortcode in wordpress at the top of the page that says “this is your shortcode” for this event page.

All I want to do is show the full event page details in one simple bloody shortcode.

    Hi Lasbat,

I’m really sorry for the disappointment here. While I never like seeing this level of frustration come back our way, I do appreciate the fact that you shared it with us. Any level of feedback–positive or negative–is used constructively and this is no exception.

That said, I am definitely curious to know more about your experience with shortcodes, as this is the first time I’ve personally come across this sort of feedback since we released shortcodes several months ago. For example, what specifically do you find different about The Event Calendar PRO’s shortcodes from others you have used that make them more difficult to use?

Why isn’t there just a simple list that shows this shortcode will display the full event details page.

We do have a complete list of available PRO shortcodes detailed in this knowledgebase article (which I believe you may have referenced earlier). Please do note that there are no shortcodes to display the single event view–in other words, all of the shortcodes are for embedding the PRO widgets into any page or post. Embedding individual events is not a supported feature.

I’m wondering if that is where some of the confusion is because it seems you were expecting this feature, because none of our documentation or instructions were providing details for it since it does not exist. Does that sound like the case? If so, perhaps there is a way we can tighten up our wording to make sure that’s not a confusion for others in the future.

Why can’t every event you create, just have a simple shortcode in wordpress at the top of the page that says “this is your shortcode” for this event page.

That’s certainly an interesting idea! If the feature to embed a single event with a shortcode was available, then that would definitely make the process very slick and simple. Great idea!

All I want to do is show the full event page details in one simple bloody shortcode.

I totally hear you here and am sorry for the letdown and disappointment that this is not an included feature. It seems there was a miscommunication somewhere in what the plugin is capable of doing and you were expecting this feature to be included. If it is in fact a deal-breaker, I would encourage you to take advantage of our full refund within 30 days of any purchase. While I’d hate to lose a customer, I do want to make sure we do right by you here, so please let us know if that is something you would like to do and we can process that for you.

Thanks again for writing in and I hope this at least helps clarify the situation a little more.

Thank you for the reply. Although I am disappointed that there isn’t a solution, I appreciate the honesty.

However, I’m surprised that something like adding the event page details to a custom page using a shortcode would be over looked, especially when I have come crossed many asking the same questions going back 12-16 months.

The problem I’m having is that I cannot seem to display my event page on the custom page I had built using Beaver Builder, who are recommending your plugin to all its customers. And that all links to the full event details (venue, map, price details etc) are displayed on a default page that I do not want to use.

I had bought the Pro plugin as well as the Woo Ticket add-on and have spent over $400 and I feel like I no longer have any options.

    Thanks for following up, Lasbat!

I’ve definitely been in similar situations in the past and know how frustrating it is to invest in something and then feel like there are no options to make things work the way I had hoped. In this case, I’m super sorry that the referral from Beaver Builder (while appreciated by us!) led to some unmet expectations.

I do want to let you know that it is indeed possible to customize the single event template itself. I hesitate sharing because you’ve already mentioned being uncomfortable with code, but our Themer’s Guide does walk through the process of how to override any of the calendar’s templates for you to make any customizations to the layout and appearance that you seem fit. I have a hunch that this would help you get what you’re looking for, but it does certainly require some custom lifting that we unfortunately would be unable to support–though would be happy to help point you in the right direction as best we can.

The other route is going with a refund. I know it would be a bummer to ditch one solution and have to look for another, but I want to make sure you don’t feel trapped into making an investment in something with no recourse for getting out of it.

Thanks again for following up! Please let me know if you’d like me to help process the refund for you and I’d be happy to get that going.

    Hi Geoff
I’ve calmed myself down and in a much better frame of mind. Sometimes when you spend hours and days trying to do something, with no luck, it begins to take its tole.

In regards to your response, I do have a friend who is proper web developer and not a pretend one like me, so I’m pretty sure I can get him to do the required dev work to get the event page into my template, so will get him to look at your theme guide.

I don’t want a refund, as this is the best event plugin out there. I do think this should be a requirement that showed be looked at as I found many many plugin users with the same issue.

Thanks for your patients and I apologise if I was getting you guys backs up, but web development on WordPress some times gets me to lose the plot.

    Hi Lasbat,

No worries at all! Like I said, I totally understand how frustrating things get–especially when you pay good money for something and it doesn’t work the way you’d expect.

I’m so glad you’re staying on board and have noted your feedback and flagged it for the team to review. Anything we can do to clearly communicate the plugin’s shortcode features is a benefit for both us and customers.

Is there anything else I can help answer here in this thread with you? Otherwise, please do hit us up with a new thread if you or your buddy run into any questions about theming and we’d be happy to help as best we can!

    Cheers, man.
