ParticipantOops – thought this was going to be added to thread with title “Leaving stock blank doesn’t work”
Documentation that Bev referenced states:
Stock is the number of tickets that are available: if you leave this blank it is assumed that there is no limit and customers can buy as many as they would like. If you have a limited number of spots for your event, you’ll want to make sure to set this accordingly.This is also confusing because the ticket will save without a value in the stock field. After the first ticket is purchased, the system enters a negative number (-1 if one ticket purchased, -2 if two tickets were purchased and so on). At that time, no more tickets can be purchased in the front end.

I would love to help you with this topic.As a first troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link?

On my end, I am not able to reproduce this issue for now.
Could you please send me a copy of your WordPress theme / child theme in a .zip file link (via Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ?
