Events Calendar Pro has been working fine on this site for almost a year. No new plugins have been installed. 2 events pages are setup, http://triowinebeercheese.com/trio-events/outer-banks-live-music/ for the live music category only and then http://triowinebeercheese.com/trio-events/ for all event categories with a link to the calendar view – http://triowinebeercheese.com/calendar-of-events/.
The issue first noticed on February 4 is the Same Day Music Event doesn’t show on the Live Music page at about 7:30pm which is 15 minutes prior to music starting on most days. A click to the calendar page shows that Same Day Music Event until the event’s end time. See both page’s screen shots attached. Screen shots were captured on February 9th at 8pm. The Christian Benedi music event was set 7:45 pm to 10:45pm, with the New York TimeZone like all events. Thank you, Teresa

    Hello Teresa,

Thanks for using our plugins and for reaching out to us. I’m sorry about this issue you are having.

Do I understand correctly that the event disappears from the category view before the beginning of the event (about 15 minutes before)?

Does it disappear from both category pages (“trio-events/outer-banks-live-music/” and “trio-events/” as well)?

This happens to all events every day?

Thanks for clarifying that for me and looking forward to solving this with you.

    Cheers,
    Andras

Hello and thanks for the support!

Yes, on the “trio-events/outer-banks-live-music/” page, the same day music event disappears about 15 minutes prior to it starting.

No, it does not disappear on the trio-events/ page prior to starting. Music events and all other events remain on the trio-events/ page until the event ends.

In other words, a look at the calendar page at about 7:30 pm shows tonight’s events including music, yet the music page will show only upcoming music, not tonight’s.

Yes, this is happening everyday there is music.

    Thank you!

Thanks for looking into this issue András. Here’s an update for you that may help. Last night’s (Saturday) music was scheduled for 7:45 pm to 10:45 pm, New York Timezone. At 6:30 pm, the event was only appearing on the calendar page, not on the music page. I changed the event as follows, and it displayed on the music page each time:

all day event, it reappeared on the music page
7:45 pm start time with 2 am end time, it remained on the music page
7:45 pm start time with 1 am end time, it still remained on the music page

So for the rest of February, I have set the end time of all music events to 1 am instead of their normal end time of 10:45 pm. This will hopefully keep them displaying until well after they start.

    Thank you,
    Teresa

Teresa, one more question I have. How are you displaying the pages? Are they done with shortcode or they are category pages, only the slug is modified?

If shortcode, what shortcode are you using?

Please give me as many details on this as you can.

    Thanks!

Both pages are being displayed with the same Essential Grid. The Grid always indicates that the live music event should be displayed when it is not shown on the page.

The only difference in the 2 pages is that the calendar page displays all event categories and the music page only the music event category.

The “click for calendar view” link on the calendar page (http://triowinebeercheese.com/trio-events/) is the events settings url slug – http://triowinebeercheese.com/calendar-of-events/. Both of these pages display the live music event until it ends.

It seems to me that the live music category has a timezone issue on the live music page since when I extend the end time it remains on the page after the event starts. So is there a way to force the category and page to use the New York UTC -5 timezone? It’s behavior makes me wonder if it might be using the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). I don’t know, it’s so weird and especially since it was okay up until a few weeks ago.

    Thanks for the help,
    Teresa

    Hello again,

There is no separate timezone setting for the different event categories. All of them use the same as per your settings in Dashboard > Settings > General and Events > Settings > General tab > Timezone settings.

So it anything makes a change to the timezone, then it could be Essential Grid.

I recommend doing the following 2 tests:

    1. You tested what happens if you prolong the end time of the event, and that helped. It would be great to see what happens if you make it end earlier. Does it disappear earlier from the calendar? This would help us understand if it is really the end time and possibly a timezone setting causing the issue.

    2. Enable List view (under Events > Settings > Display tab) and check when the event disappears from there.I did a test now on my local install, the event disappeared when the end time was passed.

Let me know the results of this.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    András,

I think you misunderstood. I did not find the source of the problem. And I should not have to pay anyone to fix the default month and list view pages since I have a support license for the plugin.

To recap: Events are not displaying correctly on the Event Calendar Pro Month and List views that are included with the plugin. Something is wrong with those pages that neither I nor my colleague has touched. Since we offer those default views from the calendar grid page, they should be displaying the events for today until they end. I can’t continue to set events to end 5 hours after the correct end time so that the default pages included with the plugin display correctly.

So here is what needs to be fixed: America/New York is set as the time zone for the entire site and in the Event Calendar Pro settings. Yet, the events do not remain until the end time on http://triowinebeercheese.com/calendar-of-events/ and http://triowinebeercheese.com/calendar-of-events/list/, pages from the enabled views in Events Settings.

I believe that once the time problem is corrected, our grid view music page will be corrected since it like the default plugin view pages has no customized code.

    Thank you for the help!

    Hi András,

Just checking in to see if you have a fix yet for events in the month and list views of Events Calendar Pro disappearing prior to the event starting unless I set the event to end 5 hours after the correct end time.

The php.ini file on this site has this entry: date.timezone = “America/New_York” , so it seems you were right this does not appear to be a timezone issue, but something related to the end time due to the testing you suggested. Every event is showing the correct timezone.

Thanks for getting back with me and for the help,
    Teresa

    Hi Teresa,

I’m really sorry I kept you waiting for so many days without an answer. I had a small accident at home (my lovely daughter poked me in the eye) and I was away from the screen recuperating.

    You mentioned:

I discovered that my colleague wrote a custom query function for the grid view of the calendar page.

I checked the code you shared and there are some parts which look like they are modifying the query of events in some way. It would be great if you could disable all custom codes and check what happens then with the disappearing events.

If disabling the custom codes doesn’t help, then the next step would be running a test for conflicts based on our guide to see if any plugin or the theme you are using is influencing that somehow.

Let me know what you find, I’ll be waiting.

    Cheers,
    Andras
