Ben
ParticipantI just installed Community Events and am looking for a way to review pending events before publishing them. Being able to review pending events before publishing was one of the highlighted features that motivated me to purchase Community Events.
When I view the community events list (using /events/community/list/), it does not show all the event information, in particular it does not show the description field (which is required), the cost field or the website field. This means that there is no effective way to proof the entries before publishing.
To remedy this, users need to be able to see all the data in the community list view. This includes description, cost, event image, and event website URL. The “Display” button selection list should show all these fields and allow users to select them for dislay.
I would also like to see a link that would display a “preview calendar”, i.e., a calendar populated by pending events rather than published events. Both the month and list views would be needed for effective reviewing. A nice touch would be to add an “edit” button to the “Find out more…” view when in this mode, which would take the user to the edit screen for the selected event.
If there is a different intended use model for reviewing community events that is documented somewhere, please point me to it. I couldn’t find it on your web site.

MemberGood evening Gene and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us again.
I would love to help you with this topic. When I view the community events list (using /events/community/list/), it does not show all the event information, in particular it does not show the description field (which is required), the cost field or the website field. This means that there is no effective way to proof the entries before publishing.
These are very interesting points and suggestions. You are right, this view is not appropriate for effective proofing.
Most of our users prefer to proof through the backend (http://www.jazzoregon.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=pending&post_type=tribe_events) since this clearly indicates which events are pending approval. You can read more about it here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/managing-community-events-submissions/
But that still does not provide you with all the features you are looking for. As such, would you mind opening a feature request here: https://tribe.uservoice.com/search?filter=ideas&page=1&query=community ?
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Goeff, I did as you suggested. In the meantime, is there any way we could get the community events list extended to show description and cost as a bug fix? Seems like that is an oversight to me.

MemberGood afternoon Gene,
Thank you so much for submitting the feature request. It’s truly appreciated.
In the meantime, is there any way we could get the community events list extended to show description and cost as a bug fix?
That’s a great question.
However, technically, this would unfortunately not qualify as a bug since those features were never implemented. In the meantime, your best bet would be to perform a template customization / override specifically targeted at the community list view.
You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works. Check out the section that is dedicated to the Community Events plugin.
If that is slightly outside of your comfort zone, you could hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but for now it’s the best one I have.
Thank you for your understanding and valuable feedback.
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Geoff, I have to respectfully disagree. I’m afraid you can’t blow off oversights by simply saying “we didn’t mean to do it”. Walking through every event post using the administrative interface is not a viable way to proof input from a web community. Obviously, that’s why the community list function was created in the first place. The developers simply forgot to include the (required) description field and the cost field in the implementation. Could you please fix this and issue a point revision? That is what I thought premium support was all about, no?

MemberGood afternoon Gene,
Thank you for taking the time to reply and share your view on this in a transparent manner.
This helps us improve in many ways, including how we deliver support, feature requests and bug fixes.I am sorry if I miscommunicated what I was trying to say.
The “My list” feature is intended and designed for the person submitting events and not for the calendar manager.
As such, and after review of this thread with the head of support, this is not an oversight.
The plugin does behave in the way it was designed to.As stated before, I do believe you are bringing some excellent suggestions on how to expand what it could be used for (in this case the calendar manager). In fact, I can totally see how this feature would be useful and awesome.
The User Voice feature request will help with that because it lets other people weigh in and consider these ideas.
As per your last point, I am truly sorry you feel that the level of support provided on that specific topic does not meet your expectations.
Thee scope of our premium support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues with intended functionalities. We unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization.
You can read more about this here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/what-support-is-provided-for-license-holders/
As it stands, your best options for now are:
- Using the WordPress backend (as was intended for calendar admins). But I understand you are not interested in that.
- Create a template override using our themer’s guide as a starting point (as per my previous reply).
- Hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.
Best regards,
Geoff B.
