Uh oh! This is a big issue if I’ve got this right.

I’m running a site where I’m syncing to multiple Meetup groups. Somebody changed the date of their event, and the old one is still there? How am I supposed to run a reliable site if it shows dead events?

Is there no way to automatically delete a rescheduled event? This seems like it should be a fundamental feature.

    Is anybody working on this?

    Hello,

I’m sorry that you’re running into this issue, but I’ll be happy to help you out with this.

Can you first try clearing out your cache within W3 Total Cache to see if that gets you the updates? You’ll also want to make sure that you have the “Event Update Authority” setting under Events > Settings > Imports set to “Overwrite my event with any changes from the original source.” or “Import events but preserve local changes to event fields.” to allow Event Aggregator to overwrite the events on your site with changes from the source.

If an event has been deleted from the source, then it will not be deleted from your site. The main reason for this is that with most sources, Event Aggregator doesn’t have a way to “know” that the event was deleted, as this information is typically not included in the info that we get from the source. If an event on the site is missing from a subsequent import, this could be because it falls outside the date range or keyword parameters, for example, where deleting events under these circumstances would not be desired.

However, you can hide the events from the site, which essentially puts them into a special trash can, preventing them from being reimported in subsequent imports unless they are permanently deleted from the trash.

If these events have not been deleted from Meetup and clearing out the cache and changing the settings don’t make a difference, then please send me the link that you’re importing from so that I can test it out on my end.

Please note that per our forum guidelines, it can take 24-48 hours to get a response depending on the current support volume, but we always try to respond sooner when possible!

Those are my settings, and I don’t have w3 Total Cache. Should I?

I hid the event, so that people don’t put it in their calendars.

I’m still waiting to hear if he deleted the event or rescheduled it.

    Which link would you like?

Sorry, I am really anxious about this issue. Thanks for the head’s up on the response timing.

No worries at all, I definitely understand!

You do not need W3 Total Cache, but it is showing up in your list of active plugins. Caching plugins like this store page information to help speed up site performance, which means that changes might not always be displayed right away. Clearing out the cache ensures that you are seeing the current page versions.

So, one possible issue here is that the changes were imported but have not yet shown up on your site. Another possibility is that the events were deleted from Meetup, in which case hiding them is the right solution.

However, if clearing out the cache doesn’t make a difference, and the events were edited on Meetup and not deleted but were not updated (when you had the Event Update Authority set to overwrite them on the next import), then there might be a problem with the service. If this is the case, then I would like to test out the link that you’re importing from as a starting point in troubleshooting.

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
