    Hello,

In the past month or so, our links to recurring events have stopped working. I’ve ensured that TEC Pro is up to date, and have flushed permalinks.

    Main page: https://events.marylhurst.edu/events/

Example of single occurrence of recurring event: https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/catholic-mass-7/2017-10-12/

TEC support, please let me know if you need backend access and I’ll send it in a separate message/private reply.

    Thanks!
    Kyle

Hi, Simona. Sorry you’re experiencing this.

I couldn’t reproduce this issue on my localhost testing site, and it’s also working on our demo site: http://wpshindig.com/event/startup-happy-hour/all/

One thing I noticed on your site that caused suspicion is that the “catholic-mass-7” slug ends in “-7”. Are you also experiencing this issue for recurring events that don’t end in “hyphen and a number”?

    Hi Cliff,

Early on in using TEC, prior to the date being appended to the end, events would just have a numerical value in the slug to indicate the next event, as they had the same name each time and WordPress would add the numerical value each time, e.g.:

    https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/catholic-mass-4/

At some point, when a new sequence of recurring events would be created, it would then add the date. NOTE: I am not the primary user of this system, so I may be missing something here. My understanding is that recurring events (e.g., “Catholic Mass”) were just given a -x value for each time the event recurred (i.e., -1, -2, -3) because you can use the URL /catholic-mass/ over and over since it’s not unique. At some point this changed to where when a recurring event was created (e.g., the next set of recurring events of “Catholic Mass” would get the next numerical value, starting with the first date of the recurring event such as /catholic-mass-7/2017-10-02/). I don’t know if this changed because of a setting we changed on our end, or through a plugin update. Either way, either slug works for us in terms of formatting.

For example, as we’re a university, we would have a series of events at the start of each term. Let’s say Fall term a series is created, and it ends up being /catholic-mass-7/, and then the first week’s event (the first in the sequence of recurring events) would be /catholic-mass-7/2017-10-02/, then next week would be /catholic-mass-7/2017-10-09/. Then let’s say for Winter term, we’d create a new sequence of recurring events, using the same name (“Catholic Mass”). It would then be /catholic-mass-8/2018-01-07/ followed by /catholic-mass-7/2018-01-14/ and so on.

I’ve gone ahead and changed the original /catholic-mass/ to /catholic-mass-1/ (which was not used), and changed /catholic-mass-7/ to /catholic-mass/. This does not seem to have fixed the issue with these links. The URL should be valid, and the ‘All Events’ edit page works, but when trying to view the individual events in the sequence it does not.

Hopefully this extra bit of information helps. Please let me know if you need anything more.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Cliff: sorry, to answer your question, yes and no.

    Weekly Silent Meditation: https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/weekly-silent-meditation-18

The previous week (https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/weekly-silent-meditation-17/) works the same way, where the slug is just building on the previous week’s number. These DO work.

However an older instance of this event (https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/weekly-silent-meditation-6/2017-08-29/) is looking the same as “Catholic Mass” where it’s doing the numerical value, plus the date. It seems the date is what’s causing the issue?

I’ve also tried changing the permalink to ‘Post Name’. This doesn’t seem to do anything, as the “Catholic Mass” event still shows as: https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/catholic-mass/2017-10-12/

    Simona,

You mentioned that The Events Calendar Pro is up-to-date. It looks like the site is running version 4.4.5. That is more than a few point versions behind. You are running the latest version (4.6.1) of The Events Calendar, which is great.

You may want to back up your database and update TEC Pro to version 4.4.18.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for your assistance, Mathew.

Simona, could you please make sure all your Modern Tribe plugins (and WordPress core) are at their latest versions?

Once you verify you’re on the latest versions, please test to see if the issue is still happening for you.

I imagine it will still be happening, but this is still the best first step.

If it’s still not working, please install the Rewrite Rules Inspector plugin (third-party, not guaranteed or supported by us) and send me a screenshot of its full analysis of https://events.marylhurst.edu/event/catholic-mass-7/2017-10-12/

    Hi Matthew and Cliff,

I did a manual update of TEC Pro and it seems to have fixed it! My apologies for not having done that, I thought we were up to date…

Part of that is that it is not doing automatic updates as this site (events.marylhurst.edu) is on a multisite install. The license is only being used for this one single site, but it doesn’t seem to be showing the ability to do an automatic (non-manual) update on either that site’s plugin list, or the “main” site. Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you both so much for your help!

I’m glad updating the plugins manually worked for you.

Automatic updates only work when install in a non-multisite environment… unless you have the Multisite-level license. I’ve added this thread to an internal ticket regarding this issue, which is being discussed internally.

For now and the foreseeable future, you’ll need to go the route of manual updates.

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
