I love your premium plugin, but I am having some annoying problems with it. Perhaps there is something about settings I am not understanding.

    1) I cannot get recurring events to appear on my site. In addition, when I try to un-check “Recurring event instances” in the settings, the check re-appears when I save settings. In fact, the same thing happens every time I try to change anything in “general settings.” It reverts to the default settings.

    2) See attached screenshot. I don’t want this to appear. How can I remove it?

    3) I would like my “Events” page to also show one of the sidebars I have created for my site. (And I’d also like the ability to name the page anything I want.) But there seems to be no way to do this if I want to display an events list on that page.

As I said, maybe I am just missing something obvious, but I have searched the knowledgebase and can’t find the answers. Thanks for your help!

Good evening Mary Ann and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the struggles you have been experiencing with our plugin.
I would love to help you with these questions.

    1) I cannot get recurring events to appear on my site. In addition, when I try to un-check “Recurring event instances” in the settings, the check re-appears when I save settings. In fact, the same thing happens every time I try to change anything in “general settings.” It reverts to the default settings.

Would you mind giving me an example of an event that is supposed to be recurring (front-end URL) ? Could you also send me a screenshot of the Edit Event page for that event so that I can take a look at it (in a private reply).

Also, there is currently a known bug impacting many of our users (a fix should be out soon and you will be informed) where they are unable to save their settings properly in Events > Settings. I want to apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.

In the meantime, I do have a fairly involved workaround that involves using phpMyAdmin (only for users comfortable with that). It’s not perfect, but it allows you to change your settings at least once. Let me know if you are interested.

    2) See attached screenshot. I don’t want this to appear. How can I remove it?

Head over to Events -> Settings -> Display and check the Disable the Event Search Bar checkbox.

    3) I would like my “Events” page to also show one of the sidebars I have created for my site. (And I’d also like the ability to name the page anything I want.) But there seems to be no way to do this if I want to display an events list on that page.

Great news, you can change the page template used to display the Events page. Provided you have a page template that includes the proper sidebar, this should work.

You can do that by heading over to Events -> Settings -> Display and changing the option in Events template

As per your request of naming the page anything you want, there are a couple of caveats/observations around that:

    1. Currently the Events page is actually not a real page, so there are limitations on what you can do.
    2. You can control the URL of that “page” via Events -> Settings -> General (Events URL slug), but it’s important that there is actually no real page that has that exact same URL.
    3. We are working on expanding our shortcodes to be able to embed the full calendar on any page of your choice. Hang tight, this should part of our next feature releases (starting in late summer / early fall).
    4. In the meantime, you can actually display the list view via our awesome shortcodes: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-widget-shortcodes/

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

Thank you for replying so quickly,

Good news is I already solved my #1, the recurring events issue. I hadn’t done the “recurrence rule” correctly. I saw that immediately when I went back to do the screenshot. Sorry I didn’t see it before. (It’s a Monday.) I look forward to the bug fix so I can save my settings.

Thanks for showing me how to remove the events bar.

About my sidebar issue. Your fix works for the individual event pages only. Example: http://madaboutwords.com/event/book-club-author-reading-forty-martyrs/ It doesn’t change the main events page. (Another reason it would be good if that were a “real” page.) http://madaboutwords.com/events/

The shortcode I think you’re recommendomg works for widgets. I use it on the home page of my site and get a simple listing. But it is not the same as the excerpt results I get from the option here: Settings > Display > Enable event views > List which is what I want on my events page. (It seems to me your plugin uses the word “list” for two different display results.)

I appreciate any additional help you can give me. Thanks!

    Good evening Mary Ann,

    Thank you for writing back.

Good news is I already solved my #1, the recurring events issue.
Thanks for showing me how to remove the events bar.

Awesome! I’m glad you were able to figure these 2 things out.

About my sidebar issue. Your fix works for the individual event pages only. It doesn’t change the main events page. (Another reason it would be good if that were a “real” page.)

I absolutely agree with you. It will all be better once we expand our shortcodes.
The good news is that in the meantime there are a few viable options available (although there are not built-in).

One idea, by looking at your website, would be to tweak your theme’s archive.php file to add a conditional.

By adding an IF in that file to include a chosen sidebar when the archive post-type is “post-type-archive-tribe_events”, you could achieve exactly what you are looking for.

That being said, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues.
We unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization.

As an alternative, you could hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.

The shortcode I think you’re recommendomg works for widgets. I use it on the home page of my site and get a simple listing. But it is not the same as the excerpt results I get from the option here: Settings > Display > Enable event views > List

You are right, you can use shortcodes in widgets.
But you can also use them in content or text areas of any page.

The advanced list widget, comes pretty close to reproducing the same layout as you might get from the actual list view.

The good news is that, if you want to, you could totally have it replicate what the full list view is doing.

That can be achieve through a template override. You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Geoff B.

I just wanted to follow-up on this. Is there any pending issue that we haven’t addressed at this point ?
