I’ve discovered a problem with repeating events in EventCalendar Pro. They don’t work for me if I select a date for them to finish on. However if I select a number of occurrences then they work fine.

    For example this event: http://www.burnhamdeepdale.co.uk/event/tim-hall-watercolour-oil-exhibition/2015-08-24/

When I entered it first up, I entered it as repeating daily from 18 to 24 August. However it didn’t show up in the listings. Then I changed it to repeating daily for 7 occurrences and it is now showing in the lists.

    Hey @deepdalefarm,

I think you’re actually using things fine. Note what you described here:

When I entered it first up, I entered it as repeating daily from 18 to 24 August. However it didn’t show up in the listings. Then I changed it to repeating daily for 7 occurrences and it is now showing in the lists.

In the first example, it sounds like you set the “Start Date” to 18 August for the event, then “End Date” for the event to 24 August – correct?

If so, then this will not save as seven recurring events – it will be one seven-day event itself, that starts on 18 Aug. and ends on 24 Aug.

Your second example is the correct use case. If the events happen each from 8am to 5pm, for example, and repeat every day, then it is indeed the correct behavior to make an event that starts 18 August @ 8am and ends 18 August @5pm, and then repeat this event itself seven times to generate 7 recurring events.

I hope this distinction helps clarify things – let me know if it does!

    Cheers,
    George

Sorry, I haven’t explained myself well enough.

    Under Time & Date.

Enter Start Date as say 11/8/2015, Enter End Date as 11/8/2015.
Recurrence: Every Day and will end On 14/8/2015

When I save the event, it doesn’t appear in the listings. However I can view the event, but the View All beside the date, gives me a 404 error.

I then change the Recurrence to: Every Day and will end After 4 events

When I save the event, it does appear in the listings. And when I click on the View All beside the date, it shows me all the events, not a 404 error.

So to summarise, the error is with the Recurrence, when you use a date as the Recurrence To.

Apologies for my misunderstanding of that originally! Thanks for elaborating, I see what you mean now.

I just tested this on my local site and was not able to reproduce this behavior – in other words, both your second example of a recurring event and the first one ( Recurrence: Every Day and will end On 14/8/2015) work fine for me.

Unfortunately, that means we’ll need to do some more digging here.

First, how are you getting that date format on your site? The 14/8/2015 format specifically? Are you just using the “Datepicker Date Format” option, which I screenshotted here? → https://cloudup.com/c1wMmYakCW6

If so, does setting that a different format like 2015-08-14 make any difference in behavior here whatsoever? (i.e. make that date format change, and then try making a new Recurring event with similar dates and settings and see if the issue persists).

If that does not affect anything, then just set your datepicker format back to what you selected and proceed to the next step:

Next, unfortunately, the best step I can think of for further troubleshooting here is to run through our conflict-testing steps outlined here → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/

Those steps may seem tedious but are fortunately much quicker to work through than they seem – and if you check on the recurrence issue after EACH step in that process, and report on your findings, that is very valuable information. At worst, it will help rule out the possibility of theme/plugin conflicts, which is a huge deal since those sorts of conflicts account for many issues in general.

Let us know what you find!

I’ve created a test event, so you can see the issue that is arising:

    http://www.burnhamdeepdale.co.uk/event/test-event/2015-08-06/

When you click on that link you’ll see the test event. Then if you click on (See All) by Recurring Event, it will give you a 404 error.

When I select the dates, I am simply clicking on the date field and up comes a calendar to choose the date from.

You’ll also see that the test event isn’t appearing in the calendar for the dates it was created for, ie 6th to 8th August.

I’ve tried creating with the date format you’ve suggested, but when I enter dates in that format the system just deletes them out and I have to re-enter. The current date format, which the system enters when selected from the calendar is 6/8/2015. I tried entering 0s, but that didn’t work as the system removed them.

As I say, it is very strange that it works fine using a number of occurrences, but doesn’t work using a date for the end of the recurrence.

Looking at the conflicts list now.

Thanks for the quick reply here!

By “Date format”, I don’t mean just adding zeroes – I just mean going to Events > Settings > Display, and then scrolling down to the “Datepicker date format” option. This will set the format automatically if you go to create a new event.

You change the format by just choosing a different format from the dropdown there, and clicking “Save Changes”.

Definitely worth giving this a try before the “Testing for Conflicts” steps!

Sadly the date picker makes no different. Still the same problem.

Thank you for checking! It’s still a good step that we can at least rule that out now as a possibility.

Unfortunately, this means the next step is that set of theme/plugin troubleshooting steps. Can you proceed with those now as originally planned?

    Thank you!
