ParticipantWe have the calendar and pro installed on multiple sites in WP multisite installations.
In some but not all cases, the recurring events have stopped creating listings, even when the end date is set to “never.”
We have a test site where you can see the result.
I have so far handled this manually, but it’s getting time-consuming, so we need a solution that will make the pro recurring events feature work as intended.
This issue started showing up after we replaced wp-cron jobs with server cron jobs. We were assured by your team that that would not affect recurring events, and it may not be related…
Privately, I am sharing the URL of our test site. You can look at the October & November calendars & see the Sunday events are missing in November. I can provide log-in if needed.

ParticipantAs I make my way through site updates, I am finding other sites with the same issue. I am attaching a screen shot. You can see that recurring events stop mid-month (for Sundays, it’s obvious).

ParticipantSame issue, with more information. Looking at one recurring event that is not being generated correctly (it stops in December 2017, although it’s set to never end), I went to edit it and found multiple instances of exceptions to the event in the Dashboard. I have seen this on other sites as well. Screen shot attached.

KeymasterHi Cheryl,
Thanks for using The Events Calendar, I’m happy to help! In order to help, I would like to get some more information from you, if I can. Does this happen to every recurring event or just this particular recurring event?
-Also, if you could please test for conflicts by following this documentation? Let me know what you find. This will help me determine how deeply we need to look into the specific configuration of your site, or if this is a bug. ?
Thanks,
Brendan

ParticipantI have gone through the troubleshooting (altho theme Twenty Sixteen is no longer available; I used Twenty Seventeen).
All plug-ins except yours were disabled.
I am attaching a screen shot showing that the plug-in is listing each past event as a one-time exclusion. I’m seeing this on other sites in other networks. It’s a separate issue, but another one that is causing our clients a LOT of extra work.

KeymasterHi Cheryl,
Thanks for the info. So it looks like it may just be a setting. To make sure go to Events > Settings > General Tab and look for something that says “Create recurring events in advance for” and you can set that to however many months in the future you would like.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Brendan

ParticipantI have the calendar and pro installed on 28 websites and have been using both plug-ins daily for several years, so I’m very familiar with all the settings and how they are supposed to work. I am seeing these 2 issues on all 28 websites and am getting complaints from clients, so please look deeper.
Specifically
The calendar has always auto generated recurring events in advance based on the setting in General Settings, but has stopped doing that.
The calendar is now listing as “exceptions” recurring events that have passed.
We have installed all recent updates and tested for conflicts. We are not finding conflicts.
Please respond ASAP with a solution. Thank you for your assistance.

KeymasterHi Cheryl,
I do see you have a lot of history with us and we truly appreciate your business. We have ruled out the settings issues. Now we want to do the following:
Does this issue happen on new events as well or just old ones? In the past we had an issue with exclusion rules however that was fixed in after version 4.4. If you skipped a version on the update it may have caused this issue.
The only workaround for these would be:
– delete all exclusions and then re-save the event (takes a lot of time)
OR
– simply delete the event series and re-create itUnfortunately no matter which option you choose, its going to take some time and I apologize I don’t have a better answer.
And I see you switched over cron but does the wp-cron still worK?
Thanks,

ParticipantPlease see the thread on the previous topic, “Calendar’s memory use crashing server,” about the change from wp-cron to server cron jobs. Please review and let me know your recommendation. It does seem possible that the disabling of the wp-cron is related to the problems we’re having, although that’s usually not the case, according to the ticket.
Using our test site to try to answer your question about whether there’s an issue with new events set up (with recurring settings not working), I used our test site to set up a daily recurring test event.
I am attaching screen shots so you can see the results.
The event was set up to recur daily for 4 months, but the plug-in has created events through March 15, 2018.
Whatever else happens, I won’t know until tomorrow whether the plug-in adds one more day to the schedule for this event.
I am attaching screen shots so you can see the settings and results.
I also can set you up as an admin for the site if you send me a user ID and email address.

KeymasterHi Cheryl,
I see. In regards to disabling wp-cron, did this issue start after this? Unfortunately I am not able to get a login for your site.
Thanks,

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
