GuestHi there,
Pre-sale question here. I see that events can be exported to iCal/Gcal, but is there any planning to offer the ability to sync Events Calendar with those personal calendars?
Thanks,

MemberHey Ian, thanks for getting in touch!
Yes, indeed we are. In fact, we have a plugin called iCal Importer that will import events from any hosted iCal feed, including Google Calendar. 🙂
Does that look like it will work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

GuestHi Geoff,
Maybe I’m misunderstand, but what I’m looking for is allowing any given user to export an Events Calendar event or series of events in a way that will stay synched. The reason being is that we would want updates to the event to automatically update on the user’s personal iCal or Gcal. Is that what you’re talking about?

MemberHey Ian,
Ah, gotcha — thanks for clarifying!
iCal Importer does add a hosted iCal file to the calendar. So, in essence, any other calendar the accepts an iCal feed will be able to grab that data and keep it synced with The Events Calendar.

GuestSo if we essentially run the calendar in iCal and import that to TEC on our website, anybody who exports from the website to iCal would be synched?
Beyond that, we can allow users to export individual events to gcal, but these will not be synched?
Presuming that’s all correct, are there any plans to make synching with Gcal possible in the not-so-distant future?

MemberHey Ian,
Great questions!
At the moment, the syncing portion is completely reliant on the application importing the data. For example, if Google Calendar is importing events from The Events Calendar, then it will need to do a continuous check for new content using the iCal feed as the source.
We don’t have any plans to build continuous outbound sync to iCal Importer, but I do see an open feature request for it that could use more votes — definitely add your vote!

GuestIn a similar vein – is it possible to create feeds (rss/xml) from a calendar and/or sub-sections of the calendar (eg: specific venues, organizers or thematic tags — related: can you tag events for organizational purposes?)?
IanAugust 15, 2016 at 9:09 am #1151687Geoff
MemberHi Ian,
Yes, the calendar does indeed include RSS feeds right out of the box for the main calendar and category views. Any of those feeds can be located by adding /feed at the end of the URL of the current view.
Tags are a little different, however, since they are shared with default WordPress posts. That means the archive of posts will contain both Posts and Events in the same place and no RSS will be automatically generated by the calendar.
Cheers!

GuestThanks Geoff.
A couple more questions and I should be sated.
We use WPMU’s Membership Pro plugin for our subscription system. I’m wondering about how to integrate the calendar with the paywall. It would seem to be that since Membership Pro allows me to limit access to a give page to certain types of members, I should be able to choose the calendar page as a paywall-protected page. Similarly, the events exist as WordPress posts to which we can apply certain common categories, which in turn can be placed behind the paywall through Membership Pro.
A) Is that accurate?
B) To your knowledge, is any more intricate integration of Membership Pro and The Events Calendar Possible?August 15, 2016 at 12:53 pm #1151794Geoff
MemberGreat questions!
To be completely honest, I have not personally tested The Events Calendar with any membership plugins. I tried looking to see if others had success with Membership Pro, but I was unable to find anything specific to that plugin. I did see some success stories with other membership-related plugins, including Restrict Content Pro.
That said, I’m purely going off of other threads and reports and the best means to tell for sure is to test the compatibility on your site. I’ll also point out that we do offer a full refund on all products within 30 days of purchase for just such an occasion, though I would think that testing with the free version of The Events Calendar would be adequate as well.
Cheers!
