    Good afternoon,

We have been having problems with recurring events behaving “unpredictably.” I’d create a series of events to recur every week for 6 weeks, and only the first event would be displayed on the calendar. Then we’d change it so that the event would recur every 4 weeks, and it would display every week for a duration of 6 weeks.

Today we hit upon a workaround. It appears that as long as I click the blue “Update” button twice, the recurring events are created as expected. Here’s the procedure I used:

    1. Create the event and add recurrence rules
    2. Click the blue Update button and let it complete its process
    3. Then click the blue Update button again and let it complete its process

It appears that this workaround is working reliably. But I don’t understand why this is happening. It seems like I should only have to click on the Update/Publish button ONCE to create a series of recurring events.

    Hi Douglas,

Thanks so much for reaching out!

That is definitely some strange behavior that you are describing.  As a first step, can you tell me what you have set for Create recurring events in advance for under Events Settings < General.  This setting will dictate how far in advance your recurring events are being created and may affect what you see on the front end of your site.

Can you also take a screenshot of what one of your events where you are seeing this issue looks like on the backend, so that I can try to replicate the behavior that you are seeing?

Let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime!

    Thanks,

    Jaime

    Hi Jaime,

For “Create recurring events in advance for,” it says “24 months.”

    Screenprint is attached.

    Hi Douglas,

Thanks for providing me with that information.

I am not able to replicate this issue, as the events were created as expected on my end.

In that case, can you try disabling your cache system and see if the events create properly that way?

If not, let’s try to rule out if there is some type of conflict at play.
    This is usually because of:

    • A conflict with another plugin
    • A conflict with your WordPress theme
    • A template customization for the Events Calendar that requires updating

When it comes to that type of issue, it is preferable to troubleshoot in a staging environment if you have one.

A first quick test is to simply temporarily revert back to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-sixteen to see if the issue persists.

The next step would be to go through our testing for conflicts procedure and let us know what you find out.

Basically the goal here is to revert back to a bare WordPress installation to see if the problem persists. It also allows us to pinpoint what the cause of the issue is.

But, before you do that, there are 2 things I would advise:

    • Make a backup of your database
    • Consider activating a “Maintenance Page” plugin if you are doing this on your live site (to minimize impact on your visitors)

Let me know how that goes!

    Thanks,

    Jaime

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
