KeymasterHello Riza,
Thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry about the issue you are experiencing.
I visited http://www.yourvalleynews.co.uk/events but didn’t see the search bar there. Could you provide me with a URL where you are experiencing the issue?
Also when I was trying to look at some of the events I got a 404 page and a weird URL.
E.g. Swedish Massage – 21/01/2017 09:00- 16:00
show this url: http://www.yourvalleynews.co.uk/events/swedish-massage-21012017-0900-1600/Was this event part of a series before? Was it imported? Or is it normal that it gives a “404 not found”? 🙂
Looking forward to your reply.
Cheers,

ParticipantI apologise. I was in the process of changing the event system, you were too quick 🙂
The correct event page is at:

KeymasterHi Riza,
So we checked the page and the location search on the map view. We have encountered similar before.
When searching for location then in some cases you need to explicitly add “UK” to the search. “Bristol” seems to work, but “Salisbury” only works with “Salisbury, UK”.
This is unfortunately due to a limitation in the Google Maps API, not our plugin. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to fix it. I’m really sorry about this. We hope that Google will enhance their magic tricks to make this work as expected.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
Cheers,

ParticipantIs there a way to add UK to all searches by modying the plugin? All events entered to the site are in UK and all searches will be in UK.
In fact you may even consider adding a setting to do that as you already have a setting for default country: “Tick to add the deafult country to all search results”
What do you says?

KeymasterHi Riza,
There most probably would be a way to modify how the search works, though we are limited in doing customizations like that. If you’d like I can share with you a list of developers from the community who might be able to help you out with that.
I can offer two alternatives:
Option 1: In backend, if you put the location – city, state, country (abbreviated and spelled out) into the description for each event and eliminate the Near field from search bar on frontend, the main Search field will find your event based on the city/state/country.
Option 2: with our Filter Bar extension you can set up different filters, including country and state / province. This might help you as well.
Does this help?

I respectfully disagree. I’m not asking for a customisation but a correction to the way the plugin works. I do understand that you are constrained by Google but there is always a way and not trying to find it means you are leaving users in the UK with a partly broken plugin. Ultimately it is your plugin and your customers, not Google’s.
Option 1 above is not doable using the Community Events form. Or, am I missing a trick here?
I will consider buying the Filter Bar plugin if it works. Do you offer a money back guarantee? I can spend time testing it but don’t want to end up with a relatively expensive plugin that I otherwise don’t need.
As always, thank you for the support.

KeymasterHello Riza,
I totally understand your disappointment. Since this (the map) is a 3rd party solution, we don’t have any influence over it.
On the community events submit for there is also a field for event description, and it is a required field. You would need to add the address there.
In case Filter Bar doesn’t deliver what you need, then yes, we do have a money back guarantee. Here you can read the details of our refund policy.
I have checked your map view and did some searches. It seemed to work fine. Can you give me some details which search is not working?
Also did you try to adjust the search distance radius under Events > Settings > General tab > Map Settings section > Map view search distance limit ? Check that setting if that helps you get better results.
I’m here for any further questions you might have reg. this topic.
Cheers,

ParticipantStrange, but in a nice way; both search and nearby is now working perfectly. I have reduced the radius to 25m and I can see it clearly that it works.
So…my issue is resolved.
Thank you.
