ParticipantHi,
I need to add an event that would repeat on mondays only for two weeks. I just cant seem to figure it out.
http://www.barnegat.net/events/2013-01/
I have it set to 2013-01-07 – 2013-01-14 Recurrence: custom, ends on 2013-01-14 Frequency: weekly Every: 2 weeks monday checked. Can you help?
Thanks.

MemberIf you set the initial event as running 2013-01-07 – 2013-01-14 then that makes it a week long event. If I’m understanding you correctly the initial event should start and end on the same date (a single day event).
You should then be good to set up your custom recurrence pattern.

ParticipantHi. I had the same problem/question about reccuring events. In my case, my events are training courses, so imagine a complete course is a single event that starts i.e. on 2013-01-014 and ends on 2013-01-23 but training days are only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If I set the event the way you say (a single day event) with frequency set to weekly, it creates 5 different events, but it would be awesome if it could create only one event that repeats 5 times (14, 16, 18, 21 and 23 of January).

MemberWell, not 5 completely different events. They would be related to one another by virtue of being part of a pattern of recurring events.
At this sort of level I think it’s almost a matter of semantics, what you call one single event someone else might reasonably see as 5 separate events (the individual training days) that happen to be grouped together.
Just to help me understand what you are after here, what sort of change would you be expecting to see here in terms of actual calendar output?

ParticipantYes, I totally understand your point of view. I didn’t mean 5 completely different events. Even though they’re related, it’s a bit confusing having 5 different entries for every training day as the people sign up for the complete course.
As I see it, a possible solution to this kind of events would be to introduce the concept of excluding dates.
In my case, I would set a single event from 2013-01-14 to 2013-01-23 but excluding some dates: 15th, 17th, 19th, 20th and 22nd of January (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday).

Javier: ah ok. I see what you are saying. I’ll log this as a feature request but I’m not sure if it will be accepted or not, I suspect it’s a bit of an edge case.

Thomas: perhaps we’re misunderstanding one another? Is this the sort of pattern you are trying to create (if not, can you give an example of what you are trying to create)?
- Monday 7 January 2013 (initial event)
- Monday 14 January 2013 (recurring instance)
- Monday 21 January 2013 (recurring instance)
- Monday 28 January 2013 (recurring instance)

ParticipantBarry,
yes.
Thanks.

MemberOK, so for that sort of set up here is what you need to do:
- Create a new event
- Set the Start Date/Time and the End Date/Time to Monday 7 January 2013 (or whatever the first day is in your case)
- Choose Recurrence: Custom
- Ending on Monday 28 January 2013 (or whatever the last day is in your case)
- Frequency should be Weekly Every 1 Week(s) on Monday
And that should generate the pattern we talked about.

ParticipantThanks Barry, it would be great if they could integrate this feature.
I think I found a workaround for this, so I created a new post to keep things clean. (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/custom-field-as-the-event-link/) Could you please take a look at it? thanks.

MemberOK, cool. Since I think we’re all sorted here particularly with the original problem posted by Thomas my inclination is to close this thread and we can keep the conversation going on your new thread (Javier).
Thomas: if you still need help don’t hesitate to let me know in the next few days and we’ll keep this thread open.

Participantalso go here http://www.barnegat.net/ notice a status circle spinning by the calander?
January 4, 2013 at 6:53 am #30291Barry
MemberHi Thomas! The issue with the spinning circle is a quite separate problem and it would be great if you could create a separate thread for that to avoid any confusion.

Can you itemize the settings you used, or even share a screenshot so I can see the recurrence pattern?
