ParticipantMy client initially made a normal WordPress page of info about an event. Instead of typing it all up again from scratch, we were going to copy/paste the HTML text version of the page (since it also includes pictures) into the HTML text version of an Event Page.
However, when we do that, the new single event page doesn’t show any of the paragraph breaks.
But if we were to create a new single event from scratch, and type in paragraph breaks, etc., the page displays as it should.
Thanks in advance for your help on this.

ParticipantPasting from HTML can drag in formatting you don’t want. Try pasting it in after clicking the “Text” tab of your editor window (upper right). Then click the “Visual” to switch back to the visual editor to do all your formatting.
You shouldn’t try to copy & paste images into the posting, you need to upload them using the media button to make sure they will be connected to the post the right way.

ParticipantI’m sorry if I wasn’t more clear, but I actually did copy the HTML of the “text” tab from a page on the same WP website, into the “text” tab of the new event page. Also, I wasn’t copying and pasting a photo from the WYSIWYG editor, I was ust copying the entire page from the HTML view (I originally called it text because it was from that “text” tab).
Thanks in advance for your continued assistance.

ParticipantHi, runwildmissoula. Great question! 🙂
I was going to offer you the same advice as Patti (Thanks, Patti!), so I’m glad that you clarified that.
If, after pasting the copied text, you switch to the Visual tab, does the content look correct?

ParticipantGood question. The content looks correct in the Visual tab. But not when published… which has me stumped!
As of this posting, you can view an example original page:

And the problem event post:

Does that help you with hopefully figuring out what’s going on?
Thanks,

ParticipantYour problem on the above page is that the ordered list needs to be reformatted. This might be the one time you actually want the formatting from previous page to be brought over in the c&p. Easy enough fix though, just apply the OL style to the paragraph and then hit the return key at the end of each list item.
You might just need to do that with every paste in. Just do it on the visual side, put the cursor where a paragraph ends, delete key until the next paragraph is flush against the cursor then hit the return key once. Repeat until you’ve done all the paragraphs.
BTW – this isn’t an ECP issue, this is just how WP works.

ParticipantThanks so much for your help here, Patti! 🙂
runwildmissoula, did that work for you?

ParticipantHi!
No, that didn’t work.
Those bottom graphs are not actually an order list, my client just happened to number them manually. Also, there are additional paragraphs at the top of the page (if you compare the two links) that also are not showing up as separate paragraphs.
Any other thoughts as to what’s going on? Thanks!

ParticipantHi, runwildmissoula. I’m sorry that didn’t work for you.
It sounds like this is more of a WP/TinyMCE issue, rather than one with The Events Calendar. I do know that adding a non-breaking space can sometimes force wpautop to do the right thing, but ultimately, this is something that you may need to play around with on your own.
If anything else comes up with your instance of The Events Calendar, please don’t hesitate to reach out! We’ll do our best to get you sorted. 🙂

ParticipantSo I’m confused – are you saying that you can’t help me any more? This is only a problem that I’m having with the event calendar posts, not any other type of WP posts or pages.

ParticipantThis is a little confusing to explain, runwildmissoula, but what you’re seeing is an issue that you’re having with the text editor that’s built into WordPress (TinyMCE), not our plugin.
We have not had any other reports of this issue, so I can only assume that this has something to do with the content that you’re pasting. One way to work around that would be to strip all the formating by pasting it into a text editor and then copying and pasting that into the browser field.
I’m sorry that we can’t offer any further advice, but this issue is really something that we don’t have any control over.
Best of luck!

ParticipantThanks for explaining further.
So I just cleared out all that text on the event post that I was having problems with. And then I typed in (NO copy/paste) three paragraphs. I typed those graphs one word at a time.
And then when I went to view… no paragraph breaks.
So I’m still stumped. (I get that the copy/edit may not work. But this?)
Any thoughts?
Thanks so much.

ParticipantWow! That’s definitely unexpected, runwildmissoula. Does the same thing happen with a brand new event?

ParticipantI just gave it a try – and yes, the same thing happens with a brand new post.

ParticipantHi, runwildmissoula. Have you tried deactivating all other plugins and reverting to a default WP theme like Twenty Twelve to see if a conflict may be causing the behavior?
