    Hi there,

This is sortof a followup of: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/event-with-multiple-dates-and-venue/

    – I have a recurring event 1 that’s on location A. After a week or so the same event moves on to location B
    – So i break it out of the recurring event 1 to add location B, no prob.
BUT in photoview i merely want an overview of event 1, event 2, event 3, etc. And not see event 1A, event 1B etc.

Add. i tried to use the events shortcode plugin and show only those event that are given a category. But even giving a category breaks an event out of the others.

Is there an option for this? Cheers, Ed’

    Hey @Teubl,

Thanks for writing in. Unfortunately, while you can definitely split events out of recurring series like you describe, you cannot then modify things so that only one event shows for the series. So, this is not possible:

BUT in photoview i merely want an overview of event 1, event 2, event 3, etc. And not see event 1A, event 1B etc.

    Sorry to disappoint!

Ok. It’s nice the plugin has recurring events, but all it needs is various locations for an event (without breaking the series).

    For now i have:
given the broken series of events a category A.
added a shortcode for each category (events shortcode plugin)
limited by ‘showing 1’ (events shortcode plugin)

But then i need to style it with css. Does the events calendar pro has a shortcode for Photoview filtered by category and show only 1 event by any chance?

    Cheers, Ed’

    Hey Ed,

Sorry to disappoint about the lack of specific recurring event features you want here.

As for anything related to that “Shortcode plugin”, we do not make that plugin and are thus not able to answer any questions related to. I unfortunately do not know what it’s capable of, and your best bet is to post any questions related to it to the authors of that plugin → https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar-shortcode/

As for a “pre” tag, I would recommend viewing your post content in “Text” mode instead of “Visual” mode—this reveal the pre tags, and you can remove them. They are not added by default, but are likely there by mistake because you copied and pasted a shortcode example that was itself wrapped in pre tags for formatting/style.

    Cheers,
    George

    Hi @teubl,

We unfortunately cannot help with your custom coding questions. If you are not sure how get the titles from taxonomies and such, your best options are to research how to do this in WordPress in general online, then continue to tinker on your own; or to hire a professional to help you further.

Please read this page to learn more about what types of questions we can help with → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/what-support-is-provided-for-license-holders/

When it comes to the shortcode, you did not reference a specific shortcode. You shared a link to this page: https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar-shortcode/

Sorry if you meant something other than that plugin! What specific shortcode are you referring to? And what was the purpose of linking to that third-party shortcode plugin, are you using a shortcode from that plugin too?

    Thanks,
    George

    Hi George,

I did mention the 3rd party events shortcode plugin in the first post. But on April 25, 2016 i posted the idea to use the shortcodes from https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-widget-shortcodes/. Anywayz.

    Ny presumption of:
    – being able to add an event with various locations (like various time and/or date) wasn’t that unlogic imo, hence i was hoping to find some support here. (without breaking it from the series).
    – being able to show a list of past events doesn’t seem that odd to me.

I was even wondering if after not being able to overcome the above points why would need the pro version. Luckily only the pro version handles recurring events.

Case unsolved, but thread can be closed.

    Hey @Teubl,

Thanks for clarifying some things here.

When it comes to adding various locations to an event, this is unfortunately just not possible without a significant customization of the Venues post type and how they relate to events.

When it comes to displaying past events, however, I am sorry that I did not understand this question earlier. This is definitely possible and I would recommend using the function tribe_get_events() to get a list of past events. You can add parameters like event category and all sorts of stuff. Learn more here → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-tribe_get_events/

    Thank you!

    Hi George,

Thanks for the info. I’ve decided to make a regular wordpress page with the recurring events. Now they link to http://www.site.com/events/eventX.

Without specifying this link goes to http://www.site.com/events/eventX/all

Is there a way to let it go to first upcoming event? (or at least not to an overview of events?)

I could use a link to http://www.site.com/events/eventX/date, but then after eventX is over it shows ‘this event has passed’.

    Thanks, Ed’

    Hey @teubl,

You unfortunately cannot rework the recurring event URLs how you describe. 🙁 You could only do so by rewriting the code that handles the recurring event links, which is far outside the scope of support and a project you would have to undertake on your own.

Since your last questions have been mostly customization-related ones—which is fine! we are just not able to help much with them—I will go ahead and close up this thread. If you have any other questions that we are able to help with, open a new thread any time.

    Thank you,
    George
