Media LIbrary out of control

I just got a call from my client in a frenzy about their out of control media library. It seems that they have a lot of events being submitted with duplicate images.

The media library in some cases has 10 versions of the same image.

What are the best practices that should be followed to avoid this in the future and is there anyway to delete the current duplicates with out ending up with a lot of broken images?

Is it that people are uploading the same image multiple times, or is it that the image is turned into multiple versions after being uploaded once? Perhaps you can send me the two links to the same image and we can go from there.

It’s getting uploaded multiple times. An example is Putnam CT has regular events that are branded to a very nice logo and the logo is submitted with the individual events resulting in unique copy of the logo in the media library for each submission.

Ah gotcha–thanks for clarifying!

As long as there is an option to upload an image, then there is indeed the possibility of duplicated images being uploaded.

The only way I can think of preventing that is to remove the upload option altogether. Here’s a thread that outlines how to do that.

Sorry I don’t have a specific method to ward off duplicated images with the upload functionality enabled, but disabling will certainly make the Media Library more manageable.
