On the list view of the Events Calendar, when we go to the Past Events, is there a way to show the most recent events on the top instead of the oldest ones?
We have already submitted a similar ticket, it was suggested that we ask a 3rd party developer to add the feature, but we are afraid of bringing in a developer to change the plugin code as it will be automatically overwritten when the plugin is updated.
Is there any way of having an option added to sort the results in the way we wish?

I’d still agree hiring a developer for this would likely be your best bet.
If you point your developer to Themer’s Guide, they can find a way to modify the code in a way that will not be impacted by plugin updates. Basically, you’d copy the essential files from our plugin into your theme/child theme. This will keep the plugins working, and avoid update conflicts.

The solution you sent doesn’t fix the issue, it messes the pagination system and the user has to refresh the page to see it working. Is there any other solution?
