ParticipantHello,
Until recently I was able to use my license key on both my password-protected dev and live site, but recently I find that I’m getting an error message on the dev site: too many installs. I’m using the latest version of the plugin I downloaded on my live site.I’m troubleshooting my events calendar/polylang issue, and I need the community events data to test on the dev site, but I don’t want to turn it off on the live site. There’s only one slot under community events on my license key page, showing the live site. Obviously I don’t want to turn this off.On another licensing matter, I’ve got an old version of events calendar pro that’s not connected to any sites, and is showing as “expired.” on my licenses page. I would like to completely remove that version from my account, because I’ve got a non-profit version that expires in 2026, and it’s disconcerting to see the expire notice from the previous version.
Thanks for any help, Wendy If there are private replies, please cc me at [email protected]

ParticipantHi Wendy,
Thanks for reaching out.

I have removed this license from your account. 🙂

Personal Licenses cannot be used on more than one site. I’m a bit puzzled as to how you’ve been able to use it on both sites for so long! But it can only be active on one site at a time.

☝️ To be clear, if you deactivate a license, it does not affect the functionality of the software or the integrity of the event data in any way! 😀 So you can remove the license key and still test without issues.
License keys simply sign up a domain name for premium support and auto-updates.
I hope the information above helps!
Please check out this Knowledgebase article here for tips on using one license for both a dev and live site ? https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-one-license-for-your-live-and-dev-sites/

ParticipantYeah, that was my understanding of how it worked, but I notice that the dev urls are getting 404s when they weren’t before. (that’s what I meant when I said that it wasn’t working.) I do see the events on the monthly calendar, and the individual links are writing the url correctly, but there’s nothing there. I guess I’ll try reimporting the data again from the live site and see if that fixes it (using the dev prefix.)

ParticipantHi Erick,
Thanks for the followup.
So, to be clear, are you actually having no issues with licensing whatsoever? And so the real problem here is actually that you get 404s on your dev site?
Apologies for misreading your original query — if the dev 404s are something you’re seeking help with specifically, let me know.
Assuming you are, to get started on troubleshooting those after importing I would first recommend these troubleshooting steps for event 404s → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/fixing-http-404-errors/
That may be helpful.
Thanks,

ParticipantListed as a separate issue, in events calendar pro (because it seems to affect recurring urls), is happening on both dev and live sites.

ParticipantI had already moved it to another more descriptive post in events calendar pro, so I’m going to close it out here. I also did flush permalinks, first thing I did. Will follow up there and mark as resolved here.
