    Hello,

This is more of a request from a client… they have come back saying that the search results are inaccurate when searching for events or “courses” in this case in nearby locations. Ideally they would like customers to be able to search for nearby courses within a 100 mile radius, as they are rather niche courses people are prepared to travel the distance.

Furthermore, the search results don’t even work if I type in the actual location of the courses such as Newark-on-Trent, United Kingdom and Billingshurst, West Sussex, United Kingdom. They only work for our training centre in London. Is there a way to filter the search results so they are a lot more accurate. If not then maybe you can take this as feedback and think about implementing this in the future?

    Thank you

    Hey Carl,

Thanks for reaching out on this. I’m mostly sure this a limitation in how the geo-loc search works in our product. But we can look into a couple of things nevertheless.

When I search for West Sussex, the generated URL, point to this place: https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8586255,-0.3781731,11z?hl=es-419, Can you check if that’s correct and try to compare it to the location given to the venue: https://www.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode&q=9+Laura+House+Billingshurst+West+Sussex+RH14+9NZ+United+Kingdom . Is it in the near area?

Also you can try to follow the steps described in our Testing for conflicts guide? This doesn’t to be a conflict, but it’s worth checking. Also try this with Filter Bar disabled.

Please let me know about your findings,
    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

Sorry for the late response. When I type in NEAR location West Sussex it comes up with no results. It lets me input London, UK and that works.

The search bar works reasonably well when I type in the course names such as “Revit” or “AutoCAD” it’s just the location search that doesn’t really work at all. As I guess most people would type in their hometown and the results show nothing unless people input a major city. It is a bit pointless having the search bar if it doesn’t even work.

Anyway I have found that most users of the site don’t use the search bar as have labelled course locations in the event name. But thanks for your help, I just wanted to give you feedback mainly that there are issues with the search feature.

    Thanks again

    Carl,

Thanks for following up on this, and for your feedback on this. I guess it’s kind of a known issue, the geo-loc search is a bit limited and we are aware of that, it’s just that there’s not an easy solution for us to pull in. Hopefully it does help most of our customers, but I totally feel you when you say it doesn’t work at all for your case!

From your comment I guess you are fine at this point, sorry not to have a better answer this time and I’m mostly sure this will be revisited at some point in the future for sure.

I’ll go ahead and close out this thread, but if you need help with anything else please don’t hesitate to create a new one and we will be happy to assist you.

    Have a great weekend,
    Nico
