Hey I spent hours on the forum and time with my team trying to figure out how to have different city pages and dedicated urls for them without using the category function. Like having website.com/texas and website.com/utah etc with a dedicated page for events ALREADY filtered for the users. It’s mind boggling with all the developments made to The Event Calendar that there hasn’t been such a feature to implement location pages. Most of us aspire to be as big as a yelp, timeout.com, eventful.com and so on that has these functionalities that allow them to geographically target there audience and tailor featured content and advertising to that audience.. I have numerous request and pre-sale questions in regard to this feature, but yet to be considered into development. This is a highly desired functionality (also available on other scripts but not as good as Modern Tribe :)).

Now that I vented my frustrations, ill continue with my question. I thought of a possible work around which is to have subdomains for each city like chicago.website.com, utah.website.com, dc.website.com and so on. Which will make it easier to have dedicated events url & feeds for each. My question lies in the setbacks of doing this

    1. How can the COMMUNITY logins/registrations between sub-domains be linked without having them register for each domain?
    2. Can a social login be implemented to community events?
    3. Do we need licenses for each sub-domain?

    Hi Ronald,

I really appreciate the feedback here! I’m a little surprised we haven’t heard a request for this before, but I can see how it would be a handy feature and it is awesome to know you would want to see that included in the plugin.

I am afraid that we are fairly limited as far as how much support we can provide for custom development questions like this. That said, I’m happy to help you as best I can!

    1. How can the COMMUNITY logins/registrations between sub-domains be linked without having them register for each domain?

    2. Can a social login be implemented to community events?

I think your second question answers the first. To my mind, WordPress does not have a built-in tool for being able to use the same credentials between sites. However, there are a number of plugins that will accomplish that. In fact, here’s a quick search of plugins to help get you started with choosing one.

    3. Do we need licenses for each sub-domain?

If you’re running a WordPress multisite installation, then you might want to consider the Multisite License option for our products. That will grant you network-level control of the plugins across the entire network using a single license. Otherwise, yes, you would need a separate license for each subdomain if you want the benefits of support and automatic plugin updates for each one.

Does this help answer your questions? Please let me know. 🙂

    Cheers!

For embedding the calendar on a page, is there a shortcode for filter the calendar by location? So i can embed a calendar on a page and it shows only events for a city specified in the shortcode attribute.

    Event Site by City

    Filter by list of cities

How to have multiple cities and categories?

    Calenders filtered by location

View events from a specific location only based on user selection or ip address

Problem with Permalinks – Trying to get DOMAIN > EVENTS > CITY > EVENT Format

    group/filter events by City

This is just a few of the many request for location specific calendars, city permalinks and so on. Also there are some on the Suggest Feature page also that I voted on. I think that in each request we articulated our needs differently, but it all leads to the need for 1 feature. We are trying to list our events like Yelp.com/miami Yelp.com/newyork

    Hi Ronald,

    Thanks for following up!

I’m sorry to say that none of our supported shortcodes currently offer the ability to filter events when embedding them.

Thanks a ton for the links. If you have a link to the thread in out feature request forum that best fits what you’re looking for, I’d be happy look into it more and see whether any other details would be helpful in that thread.

    Thanks!

I didn’t know of this limitation and may need multi-site license to add a couple city pages to my site. I already bought every plugin last month. Is there a way to pro-rate an upgrade to the mult-license for me?

    Hi Ronald,

Absolutely! While upgrading your account does not pro-rate the license usage, it does extend the date of your license to reflect the day that you upgrade.

You can upgrade anytime by heading to My Account > Licenses and clicking one of the upgrade options next to the license key.

    Cheers!

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
