ParticipantI have a select list of states or cities I want to filter on.
It seems like every time an event is submitted with a venue state and city, a new option value is created, even if the state or city already exists from some other venue. I am making that assumption based on the output of our site. For example, here is the HTML output for the state of CT:
<option value=”64855,64855,64988,64988,64763,64989,64763,64989″>CT</option>
1) Is my assumption correct?
2) What is the advantage of building the plugin this way?
3) Is there no way to just assign a single option value to a city or state so I can hard code a list of filters?August 11, 2016 at 8:24 pm #1150808Hunter
ModeratorHello and welcome back,
We are always working towards improving how our plugins perform. With that said, your assumption is correct. I see a few tickets relating to address duplicate venues, cities, states, etc. I’ve gone ahead and linked this thread to the logged tickets. Stay tuned to your wp-admin and theeventscalendar.com/blog for feature and maintenance release info.
At this time, I don’t have a solution or workaround until we can come up with a fix in an upcoming release. My apologies I can’t be of more assistance and please feel free to respond back with any more questions or comments you might have.
Thanks again and have a good Friday.

ParticipantSo this is very disappointing. As you can see in the France-Amerique.com/events website we use a lot this filter. Yet, we had our client buying the license because of this. It is paramount to us, and our client, not to have in the selects cities, states or categories that are from deleted and drafts events:
1. because it makes no sense at all,
2. because it obviously returns an empty search,
3. because the select just keep on growing and growing….This is not really user friendly.
When do you think you will release a fix for this? Is there something we can do in the meantime?
Thanks

ParticipantActually I forgot to mention, one of the main reason why we bought the license was to create a list of per-determined cities:
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Atlanta, Georgia
Austin, Texas
Baltimore, Maryland
Boston, Massachusetts
Charlotte, North Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina
Chicago, Illinois
Columbus, Ohio
Dallas, Texas
Denver, Colorado
Detroit, Michigan
Houston, Texas
Indianapolis, Indiana
Las Vegas, Nevada
Los Angeles, California
Miami, Florida
Memphis, Tennessee
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Minneapolis, Minnesota
New Orleans, Louisiana
New York City, New York
Nashville, Tennessee
Orlando, Florida
Portland, Oregon
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Phoenix, Arizona
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Raleigh, North Carolina
Sacramento, California
Saint Louis, Missouri
Salt Lake City, Utah
San Antonio, Texas
San Diego, California
San Francisco, California
Seattle, Washington
Washington, DCEven though there is not any event going on in the city at the moment.
Can you see a solution for this?
Thanks for your help.

ModeratorWelcome back,
At this time, the plugin displays data (venue and organizer info) in the Filter Bar regardless if an ongoing or future event is occurring. I understand the points made and they’re definitely worth voicing over at our UserVoice Feature Ideas page.
In response to your follow-up question, the venue info displayed in the Filter Bar is based on existing venues, again, regardless of whether or not present and/or future events are set to occur. So as long as you have venues created with the cities/states mentioned, those cities/states should display in the Filter Bar.
I hope I’ve helped answer your question more thoroughly this time around and please respond back if you need anything else. Cheers!

ParticipantThanks for your answer. From what I understand the selects populates with data from the venues.
Do you see a way to populate ourselves the select of cities with the list the client want and still get the search query to work? Do you know what I mean?
Thanks

ModeratorHello 🙂
I’m glad to hear we’re on the right track! I’m honestly not sure the best way to go about doing that as it would more than likely require custom code, which I don’t have readily available and we’re limited on what we can provide support on.
We do have a list of customizers that might be able to come up with a viable solution for what you need. I truly apologize I can’t be of more assistance here. Best of luck and let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.
Cheers!

ParticipantSo I understand you are not providing more support up to that point.
Now, let me ask you one more question, in one your previous messages you said:
“the venue info displayed in the Filter Bar is based on existing venues, again, regardless of whether or not present and/or future events are set to occur. So as long as you have venues created with the cities/states mentioned, those cities/states should display in the Filter Bar.”
So I went ahead and delete a venue, I do not want the city to show up in the select of cities. “Breuillet”
Yet it still appears…. https://france-amerique.com/events/
Am I missing something…? Unless, I am the one doing something wrong here, I think that your filter should be updated. If it is not the case, then I think you should provide support for it because this is a bug.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

ModeratorHey Amal,
I see the validity in your reasoning, but I unfortunately cannot answer whether or not it is a bug or done by design, but as I previously mentioned, I see a few tickets relating to address duplicate venues, cities, states, etc. I’ve gone ahead and linked this thread to the logged tickets. At this time, I don’t have a solution for you until we get it packed into an upcoming maintenance release.
Thanks again and have a good evening. Cheers!

ParticipantThanks for your answer.
Very last question, can you give us an estimate time for this to be fixed? Thanks
August 18, 2016 at 10:56 pm #1153501Hunter
ModeratorHello,
As much as I’d love to provide an estimated date, I don’t see anything in the logged reports that indicates any kind of timeline :-/
Have a great Friday and thanks for the patience while we got to the bottom of this!

ParticipantHi me again….
Any idea why we have a blank field in the State select?
Should blank or empty option be removed?
Thanks for your help
August 23, 2016 at 12:48 pm #1154991Hunter
ModeratorTechnically it shouldn’t, but it appears it does display in the dropdown as you’ve pointed out. Thank you for bringing that to our attention and I’m sure our developers will find it helpful when working on improvements. Your best bet for the time being would be to identify the venue with the missing info and update it accordingly.

ModeratorAlso, I just found this recent support thread where a fellow team member helped another user with a similar request. I hope it helps!

ParticipantThat might help. Thanks!
