ParticipantI am trying to use this plugin to filter and display Both live and recorded training events. Is there a way to display a recorded event? I want it to show up in results but not be displayed every day on the calendar. A user needs to be able to go to the event and view a recorded webinar.

MemberHey there, Gabe–nice to see you again. By the way, thanks for splitting your questions up into different threads, that helps a ton and we appreciate it. 🙂
If I’m understanding correctly, you are trying to embed a video of a recorded event into an Events post. In other words, you are recording your events on video, then need to embed that video in the Event post. Is that correct?
If so, embedding videos in Events posts is the same as embedding videos in any other WordPress post. For example, if you’re posted your video to YouTube, you can copy the URL directly into the post editor and WordPress and it will display. Here is more on how embeds work in WordPress.
Does that help answer your question? Let me know if that helps or if I misunderstood the question.
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for the quick response. I’m trying to use the plugin for two kinds of events: 1) events that are live and upcoming and 2) events that happened previously and were recorded. For example, a training that happened a year ago but that is still available to users. I want the past event to be “available” and searchable but not visible in the calendar. When the user goes to the past events page, they can then use that page to click a link and go to the recorded webinar.
Is that helpful?
Thanks,

ParticipantHey Gabe,
You can definitely include both types of events in your calendar. If you add a new event for a date that has passed, it won’t change how the calendar will display going forward. It will still show only the upcoming events on the calendar.
You can then access all the past events using this URL structure – http://yourdomain.com/events/list/?tribe_event_display=past.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHey Gabe,
Thanks for following up and providing the extra detail about what you’re looking for.
So you’re wanting to have the filter functionality to work on both past and future events concurrently so people browsing by filtering using the Filter Bar plugin will be presented with both future events as well as past events which contain the recorded webinars.
The best approach to this would be to take advantage of the list view of the calendar. By default, when using the filters on the main calendar view, your visitors will be presented with the future events associated with that particular filter (category, day, price range etc). However, on the list view, you have the option to view “Previous Events” (https://cloudup.com/c8I7eVxVjS4). When clicking that link, you’re presented with a loop of past events that will also take on the filters selected within the Filter Bar plugin.
So, to answer your question, yes you can filter by both future and past events. The main issue here would just be the intuitiveness of this approach for your site’s visitors. A simple idea to help make this a better browsing experience for your guests may be to filter that “Previous events” link to say something like “View webinars from previous events”.
Let me know if this helps or answers your question.
Thanks!

ParticipantHey Gabe,
You can follow our Themer’s Guide to modify the text for the “Previous Events” link that displays on the list view of our calendar. You’ll find the “nav.php” within the core plugin files at views > list > nav.php. You can then copy this file into your theme using the structure defined within the Themer’s Guide and modify the text for that link.
There are a couple of options for the multiple calendars that you are describing. You could link directly to the past events to mimic the feel of a separate calendar. You could then use the main “/events” link to be the calendar for the new, upcoming events.
You could also look into the Event Rocket plugin and some of the shortcodes available there to see if they help to get what you’re trying to accomplish. We are actually working on integrating these shortcodes into our core plugin so these will actually be available by default within the next update to our plugin (to be release soon).
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi,
I’m still trying to sort this out. I think what I’d like to do is use the list view to display a specific group of events via category or tag if possible. Is there a way to do this using shortcode? I tried the Event Rocket plugin but it didn’t quite work.Essentially I have a training page that I want to divide in half. One half should have a list of webcast trainings that happened in the past. The other side should have a list of upcoming “future” trainings.
Thanks for your help!

ParticipantHey Gabe,
Thanks for following up. I’m sorry the other solutions didn’t quite work out for you.
It sounds like you might be at the point of requiring some custom development. I can’t provide too much detail for customization here within the forums but hopefully I can help to get you pointed in the right direction.
You can accomplish what you describe by building some custom loops using “tribe_get_events()”. For the past events, you can grab those by adding the “eventDisplay => ‘past'” to the query args for “tribe_get_events()”.
I’m sorry again I’m not able to give a more detailed answer but hopefully this helps to give a direction to pursue.
Thanks!
