ParticipantHello! I am looking to use Event Aggregator to source data using iCalendar from a custom built website, and after some initial testing, it is looking promising. One topic I’m not sure about is how to remove Events where they have been deleted/removed from the source data. I understand that it is not possible for Events to be deleted automatically, but I have a list of previously loaded events which I can reload using Event Aggregator – is it possible that these reloaded events can be flagged using the iCalendar import so they are automatically hidden from the public listing. ie, is it possible they can be marked with a Status, or a Category, so they are automatically hidden? I can then manually delete them using The Events Calendar at a later time.
My best solution I can come up with at the moment is to reloaded these events, and automatically change the event date to a date in the past (ie, something like 01/01/2010) so they are not easily visible to the public.
Any suggestions on a better solution will be appreciated!
Thank You,

KeymasterHi Tim,
Thanks for reaching out!
You are correct that events deleted from the source are not automatically hidden/deleted in your calendar.

-I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to by reloaded events, but you can assign categories to events at the time you set up the import. You can also hide and ignore imported events so that they are not visible on your calendar and are ignored in future imports. Will this get you what you’re looking for? Please let me know if not, and I’ll try to help you out with a better solution!
Thanks,
Jennifer

ParticipantJennifer,
Thank you for the response. The “Hide and Ignore” option is what I am looking for, but I’m hoping to find a solution so that existing events when imported via iCalendar can be automatically marked as “hide and ignore” so they are no longer visible, rather than requiring someone to manually update the event in “the Events Calendar”. ie, is there a category or status I can use to move an active event to “Hide and Ignore” using the iCalendar importer?
For example, we are using an external application to handling bookings for functions at our clubhouse, and use “the Events Calendar” for our membership to know when the clubhouse is in use. Often these bookings are tentative before being confirmed, and we would like them removed or hidden via the iCalendar Import if the function is cancelled.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks,

KeymasterHi Tim,
I do see where you’re coming from here and how this would be useful – however, there is unfortunately not a specific category or other method of automatically hiding events on your site that are no longer present in the source calendar.
If this is a feature that you would like to see added in the future, please let us know over in our Feature Ideas Forum! This is what we use to gauge user interest in new features and help guide future development efforts.
In the meantime, you can assign categories when setting up the import, but there is not a way to change them automatically based on whether or not the event has disappeared from the source. You might be able to get this set up via a customization – you can find our documentation on doing customizations here. We are limited in the amount of support that we can provide for customizations, but if you get stuck or have any questions, please let me know. I will do my best to point you in the right direction! We also have a list of recommended developers that you could contact to have the code done for you.
I’m sorry that I don’t have a better solution for you here, but please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Jennifer
