Hi – we’ve installed community, and our members have been uploading events successfully. I’m not a developer (and will hire one for the customizing if needed) but I’m wondering if I need Pro and 3.0 to make the plugin work the way we want to. We are an international association of yoga teachers – only our members can upload events. We are using BuddyPress to create a social network for our teachers, and each teacher’s Buddy Press profile is included in our directory so people can find a teacher near them. We are organized into 5 distinct geographic regions, and the teachers are all tagged in their profiles with the region they are in. Each region has a separate page on the site and I’d love to have the events FROM THAT REGION ONLY display on the regional page, and in my wildest dreams, have an individual teacher’s list of events show up on their profile page. Also, and this is probably paramount – it would be great to be able to search for events by country, teacher, date and type as we have a very long list already and it will be growing fast…thanks, Jane NOTE – the URL below is our development site – the /app suffix will drop on Friday 6/14 when we launch…

    Hey there,

Thanks for your interest in Events Calendar PRO! Sounds like a cool site you’re working on.

We are organized into 5 distinct geographic regions, and the teachers are all tagged in their profiles with the region they are in. Each region has a separate page on the site and I’d love to have the events FROM THAT REGION ONLY display on the regional page

One way to do this without any custom code would be to assign events to different categories based on region (e.g. Category 1 = Region 1, Category 2 = Region 2, etc.). Then you could have individual menu links to the different category calendars.

In Events Calendar 3.0, we’re added Event tags. So another solution might be for you to tag events with region names and then do a bit of custom coding to call only certain tags in a calendar view.

and in my wildest dreams, have an individual teacher’s list of events show up on their profile page.

Events Calendar PRO 3.0 includes Organizer pages. These are similar to the Venue pages that exist in PRO 2.0.11, listing details about each organizer and a list of their upcoming events. You could link to this page from a teacher’s profile, or use it as a replacement.

it would be great to be able to search for events by country, teacher, date and type

Good news! After our 3.0 release, we’ll be releasing a cool new Filters plugin that will allow users to filter events by category, tag, venue, organizer, day of the week, and more. Additionally, our PRO 3.0 release includes the ability to search by date, keyword, and location. You can check out video walkthroughs of both of these features (and more!) here.

I hope that answers all your questions. If you’d like any addition info or clarification, just let me know. If you decide to purchase PRO and need any help configuring things, feel free to head over to the premium PRO forums and we’ll help you out.

    Cheers,
    Leah

Wow Thanks Leah – we’ll purchase PRO and eagerly await 3.0. I will need some help with configuration, too…

When will 3.0 launch? In the meantime, how can I create a search feature for our event page? All we have is one long list of events right now, this is frustrating for both the event creators and the users. I am not a coder although I’d be willing to hire someone to do this for me but I don’t know where to find someone who knows the plugin.
    Thanks, Jane

    Hi Jane,

Version 3.0 will be launching very, we’re just putting the finishing touches on and updating documentation now. Making a search feature would require some custom coding, and I highly recommend that you wait just a bit more to get 3.0, which will have it built right in. I really appreciate your patience, and I promise it will be worth it 😀 Keep an eye on our website and social media for an announcement.

    Cheers,
    Leah

HI Leah, I’m trying to have patience, but the people that have paid to have a listing on our site are not quite as patient! I already have a member who is hesitant and contemplating revoking his listing because it’s so unworkable. There really is NO way to search events in the 2.0 version at all?

From an email I received from Modern Tribe back in November 2012:
We are planning to start beta testing for version 3.0 in mid December and release it in early 2013.

I purchased this because I thought it would be available months ago, and now we’re at Summer Solstice – the midpoint of the year. Can I get a better estimate on when this will be available? If I have to pay to have someone code something, only to have 3.0 launch next week, I’ll be really bummed. Thanks, Jane

    Hey Jane,

I’m apologize for the long wait. Developing and perfecting version 3.0 has taken longer than we anticipated, but we the time we’ve taken means we’re releasing a really good, complete, rigorously tested and highly customizable plugin.

I understand how frustrating it’s been to wait for us, and I really appreciate your patience. I am very happy to report that it is now a matter of days, not weeks or months, until release. I understand if you need to find another solution, but if you and your members can stick it out just a bit longer without a search function, I think you’ll be really glad you waited.

We are past our final beta period now, but if it would help I can give you our last beta code. That would allow you to see the changes and prepare for the big upgrade. However, as with all beta software, it will still have some issues and we don’t recommend that you use it on a live site. Additionally, we wouldn’t be able to provide any support for that beta. If that still interests you, please email me at pro (at) tri.be.

    Best,
    Leah
