ParticipantHi Tribes,
I found a problem with the German translation: “Venue” = “Veranstaltungsort” is too long for the layout, in which it has to fit in. I tried to change this on http://translations.theeventscalendar.com but could not add a comment to give reasons for the correction. Also, when exporting the translation data, I only got the original translation, not the one changed by me. (And because I cannot edit a .po [or was it the .mo] file, I still have the faulty translation on the web page.)
Also: The country list (to be used when editing an address) has been translated from English to German, but the sequence of the list entries is not resorted. This means, the list is almost useless, because you hardly find the country you look for. (OK, when you now the English names of the countries, you can work out where in the list your country of interest could be.)
Regards

MemberGood evening Johannes and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the struggles you have faced with some of the translations.
I would love to help you with this topic.I tried to change this on http://translations.theeventscalendar.com but could not add a comment to give reasons for the correction.
You are right. Glotpress does not allow for comments in translation suggestions/updates.
It is generally up to the Project Translation Editor (PTE) to approve the suggestions or not.Until the change is approved (if they are), it will not be integrated into the downloadable language files.
But, I have good news for you. You can totally use your own translations without submitting them to http://translations.theeventscalendar.com/ .
The way to do this is to modify your language file is to use the free Poedit software (downloadable online).
Simply:
- open your language file (po) file with Poedit
- Make your changes in the file
- Save it
- Upload both the po and the mo file back in /wp-content/languages/plugins/
Doing things like that will enable you to have custom translations without waiting.
Furthermore, it will also ensure that they do not get deleted when you upgrade our plugins.That being said, you will still need to update your custom files with Poedit (Catalog > Update from pot file) every time we update our plugin so that all strings are properly translated.
Also: The country list (to be used when editing an address) has been translated from English to German, but the sequence of the list entries is not resorted.
You make a great point. I never noticed that before. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I will open a bug ticket for that. Unfortunately, I cannot commit to a release date at this point. But stay tuned, you will be contacted when the fix is released.
Finally, on a non-related note, I am noticing some CSS is missing from your install (in the mini-calendar date boxes). A fix is underway, but here is some CSS to make it look better.
.tribe-mini-calendar-event .list-date .list-dayname {
box-sizing: border-box;
-moz-box-sizing: border-box;
-webkit-box-sizing: border-box;
}Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantThanks for your answer.
As for the translation of “venue (location)”: I’ve noticed, that my corrections had found its way into the delivered translations — and realized, that I did not change the problematic entry (on the venue page to the left of the Google map: translation “Veranstaltungsort” too long and not fully shown). Rather than changing further entries by trial and error, please get your translation manager to correct the issue.

Unfortunately, you do not note the css file into which this code should go. So I could not add it on the site.

MemberGood evening Johannes,
I am super stoked that your translation made it in the delivered packages.
Actually, these translations are not approved by us. But by the project editor.
This is the way WordPress translations work (for our non-premium plugins).WordPress has set it up in this way to democratize translations. The downside is that we have no control over these. Users submit changes and have to wait (or reach out to the Project Translator from the glotpress community)
But back to your remaining issue for a moment.
I apologize for my lack of mastery of the German language, but can you confirm if the issue is with:- The single event view (the Google map section at the bottom): http://bergsport-jena.de/event/mitgliederversammlung-des-bergsportvereins-jena-e-v-bsv ?
- The actual venue view: http://bergsport-jena.de/ort/sitzungssaal-des-ipht-am-beutenberg-2 ?
I am asking because I am not sure which string is too long in both cases. Could you tell me which string that would be ?
As for the CSS, you can add it to your WordPress theme’s style.css or by using the following plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css/
Best regards,
Geoff B.
