General searching on the Events Calendar

Hi,

We are using the plugin The Events Calendar for a site, and our customer requested that the search should show results for all months, rather than the current month only in month view.

Is there a way to implement such a filter or function to find events in all months and have a “back” and “next” button to click through the months where the event is found?

If you try searching for “chinese new year”, it will show “There were no results found for “chinese new year” this month. Try searching next month.”. However the event was indeed held in February.

I do want to note that we use this Pre-Sales forum to answer questions about the premium plugins features and support with purchasing them, and that you can find technical support in our premium forums (with an active license), or general support in our WordPress.org forum for The Events Calendar.

That said, I’d be happy to help point you in the right direction here, if I can!

The first thing I notice is there there are no upcoming events on the calendar you linked to and the search functionality is currently designed to look specifically for upcoming events. It would be possible to alter the search functionality to show past events, but I do think that will take a fair amount of custom development. For that, I’d encourage you to check out our Themer’s Guide and our documentation as starting points. Specifically, you can find where the search bar is created here in the code and where the search looks for upcoming events here in the code.

Sorry I don’t have a concrete answer for you, but I do hope this at least helps get the ball rolling!
