ParticipantWhen I set up my events a few weeks ago with “The events Calendar”, the Google map was at the top of the window in full width. Now it is only displayed as a normal frame – the change happened without my intervention, maybe because of an update. Can you help me to bring the full width map back? Thanks a lot!

MemberHey Gerhard
I think you just need to add in your Google Maps API Key. Before getting that, check out this recent update:
https://theeventscalendar.com/important-google-maps-api-changes/Then see https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/setting-up-your-google-maps-api-key/ to get your key set up.
Do note, if your theme also requests an API key, use a unique key for each.
Let me know if this works for you.
Thanks

ParticipantDear Courtney,
Thank you for your help, but it dit not help.
I have created a new API and inserted it both in the plugin and in the theme. Unfortunately it remains that the map is not displayed in full width.
This error happens in the normal calendar view (http://www.publicsphere.eu/events/), as well as when I use shortcode.
And with shortcodes I have now noticed a second mistake !!
I use this shortcode: [tribe_events view = “map” category = “xyz”] but all events are displayed, not just those in the category! (http://www.publicsphere.eu/2018/03/unterwegs-in-nordrhein-westfalen/)
Es bringt jetzt die ganze Ankündigung von Veranstaltungen durcheinander. Ich wäre sehr dankbar über Hilfe!
Best regards

MemberHi Gerhard
It looks like your events page has an empty sidebar. Test how your /events page looks when you change these settings: Events » Settings » Display »
Default stylesheet used for events templates
& Events template.

Let me know if you are able to turn that sidebar off using these options and if that helps the map display full width.
Thanks

ParticipantHi Courtney,
im sorry, but it was no help. I found an older Screenshot, how it was before. I send it to you together with the actual look (this is the page, were I use the shortcode)
The second issue – in fact the bigger one – is also unsolved: I have a category in the shortcode, but it shows all Events!
All that happened without any changes. I think it was an update, that causes the problems ?!
I still need your help!
All the Best

MemberGood Day Gerhard
Can you share the exact shortcode you used by copy/pasting it here?
I’ve corrected the version you had shared above by omitting spaces and fixing the auto-correct alterations made to quotes.
[tribe_events view="map" category="xyz"]
Can you test if the map view displays as expected using the default theme Twenty Seventeen https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyseventeen/?
In the screenshots, it seems as if the sidebar is deactivated. Are you able to find a way with your theme to turn off your sidebar there?
Thanks
Courtney 🙂June 11, 2018 at 11:02 pm #1551187zapata33com
ParticipantHello Courtney,
the two problems are still unsolved.
At the Moment it is not possible to try it with the “The Twenty Seventeen” theme. But it was working before.
One of the exact shortcode I use is
[tribe_events view="map" category="nrw-tour-2018"]an other one is:
[tribe_events view="map" category="camino-revolta-2018"]I do not understand the question with the sidebar. It is deactivated in the theme.
Best regards

MemberHey Gerhard
The sidebar doesn’t display on http://www.publicsphere.eu/2018/05/die-zeit-ist-knapp-denn-die-europawahl-ruft/ but does show on your Events page. Our /Events page is technically an archive
Please install the Health Check plugin so that you can effectively disable all plugins without website visitors noticing any changes. See https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/#troubleshooting for how to do this.
Usually, theme developers can provide code to deactivate this even on the archive page.
Can you confirm if events on http://www.publicsphere.eu/events/category/nrw-tour-2018/ and http://www.publicsphere.eu/events/category/camino-revolta-2018 are correct? Are these displaying only the events that are appropriate for these categories?
Thanks

ParticipantHey Courtney,
thank you for your help again!
The sidebar is disabled in the single post. I did not found the possibility to disable it global. But the fullwidth view with the map appeared on both sites (with and without sidebar) before.
I can confirm, that an the links you sent to me, the filter for the categories work correct.
I will install the Health Check plugin, but it will take some time.

MemberThanks Gerhard. Please let me know if the map displays in full-width view within Twenty Seventeen https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyseventeen/.
Thanks

ParticipantHey Courtney,
It was not possible to do the various tests earlier, but now I copied the page to a local environment and changed to the “The Twenty Seventeen” theme. No difference. The map is not displayed in full width.
I have disabled all plugins. No change. Both problems – the small map and the filter function within in the short codes – remain.
(I also tried activating the Health-Check plugin. It made errors and I had to restore the backup to get access to the page again.)
I am very dissatisfied with the situation. I really liked the previous view with the full-width map and the filter function is essential to me.
Best regards

MemberHi Gerhard
Can you compare what you are expecting with https://wpshindig.com/events/map/. Do you see the margins of space around the map? That is something we can help with.
And then do you see how the content is not a edge to edge layout of the whole screen? That is determined by your theme, and would require code from your theme developer to override.
I am thinking the issue here is related to an update by your theme developer. Can you check in with them?
Thanks
Courtney 🙂June 30, 2018 at 10:34 am #1565265zapata33com
ParticipantHi again,
I do not understand, what I should compare. Your link shows not a full-width view. I have sent to you two screenshots on June 2, 2018. The first one is, how it is now, the second one, like it was. I like to have that full-width view back. But it is the same problem with the “The Twenty Seventeen” theme.
But the other issue is even more important. I would like to find a solution.
Best

MemberHey Gerhard
Our link is full-width. It does not go edge-to-edge, but does take up the full width of the content area.
To get rid of the sidebar, go to Events > Settings > Display tab > Events tamplate > Default Events template.
For the remaining margins around the map, please refer to your theme developer’s support.
Thanks
