ParticipantHi there guys,
Just wondering the bona fide way to add free/guest list tickets to a paid event. If I put $0 tickets in, it changes the public price range minimum to $0 on the event page. What’s the best way to do it?
Thanks again,

KeymasterHi Adam,
Thanks for reaching out! The best way would probably be to create an “RSVP” style ticket in addition to your paid tickets, which comes with the free Event Tickets plugin. This will update the range to say “Free – $20” or whatever the price of the paid ticket is.
Does that answer your question, or are you trying to change the way the price range is displayed?
Thanks,
Jennifer

ParticipantHey there, and thanks Jennifer. We don’t want people seeing that some tickets were free – we only want people to see the range of the paid tickets (eg $10-$20). I suppose when you think of any major event, some people undoubtedly get free tickets, but the general public wouldn’t see that on the ticket ordering page – they only see the minimum price the ticket was sold for to the general public. Thanks again and will speak soon.

KeymasterHi Adam,
Thanks for clarifying.
Unfortunately there is not an out of the box way to do what you’re looking for with the price, but it could be done with a customization. Our themer’s guide has some great info on customizing our plugins, and we also have a list of recommended developers if you would like to get help with the code.
If you do decide to do it yourself, I would recommend taking a look at the filter ‘tribe_get_cost’ in wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/general.php. You could use a condition to check if any tickets are free and if so, overwrite $cost with the custom price range.
It sounds like you will also want to conditionally hide the tickets on the page so that only the users you want to give free tickets to will be able to see them? If you can provide a little more context on exactly how you would like this to work, I will be happy to point you in the right direction!
Thanks,
Jennifer

ParticipantHi Jennifer,
I’ve found a way to do it. You add the ticket, and then edit the product in Woocommerce so its visibility is “hidden”.
I make the ticket full price, and then discount the full amount when I create orders for the Guest list. This alleviates the Min/Max problem, and shows Guests the full value of the ticket.
Would there be the possibility to please include something along the lines of “Hide This Ticket” as a check-box in the ETP plugin? This way we don’t need to temporarily publish the ticket in order to then hide it.

KeymasterHi Adam,
I’m glad you found a solution, and thanks for posting it here for others to see as well! That does sound like a cool feature – would you be able to post it in our Feature Ideas forum? This is what we use to gauge user interest in new features and help plan future development.
In the meantime, please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Jennifer
