Finding the calendar empty (until refreshed) – when going from another visitHadleigh page and not the Home page to What’s On (Calendar)

Think this could have happened when we changed settings re advice to set calendar up more recently/or maybe failed to be noticed over a longer period? We changed certain page names/settings (see previous thread) on your advice — before I look around/go to WP theme comp, any thoughts?

And returning from an individual entry to the ‘What’s On’ link doesn’t work.

Good evening Mark and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the calendar showing up empty. Yikes!
I would love to help you with this topic.

As a first troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link?

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/

Secondly, I believe the issue is caused by the way the link provided in the menu is coded. It simply adds /?post_type=tribe_events to the current link. This is why it breaks if you are not on the home page.

Instead, I would recommend changing your menu link to a custom link. More specifically: http://visithadleighsuffolk.co.uk/events/

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Geoff B.

    It’s currently:

    X Post name http://visithadleighsuffolk.co.uk/sample-post/

I tried custom structure previously but didn’t seem to work… obviously my knowledge is lacking. Any thoughts, appreciate this is stretching your sphere of responsibility.

    Custom Structure http://visithadleighsuffolk.co.uk
    /%postname%/

Looking online – is this what I should enter?

    /%category%/%postname%/

    in the Custom Structure

    ?

    Good afternoon Mark,

Kudos on taking my original suggestion and running with it!
I am super stoked that you got to the bottom of this issue.

You are correct, you need to have some kind of pretty permalink happening under Settings > Permalinks. Otherwise, things will not work properly.

Most users go for /%postname%/, but I believe /%category%/%postname%/ should also work.
The important thing is to make sure that your .htaccess file actually gets updated when you update the permalinks (based on its file permissions).

You are welcome back on our support forums any time 🙂

For now, I am going to close this thread.

    Have a great week!

    Geoff B.
